Hello Jeepers,

I’m new to the Jeep world and could really use some guidance! Last year, I bought a brand new JLU Wrangler, and recently I decided to lift it. I went with a 2-inch lift kit, swapped the stock rims for 17-inch ones, and added 315 tires.

A friend suggested I should upgrade the differential to 2.56, add a performance rear driveshaft and brake lines, and reinforce the front axle. He mentioned that if I don’t make these upgrades, I might run into issues down the line.

Could anyone advise on the best approach here? Can I just drive it with 2inch lift kit, 35’s and 17 inch rims which are slightly wider than the stock? Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You need to find another friend that knows something about Jeeps

Driving it the way it is will be perfectly fine.

Haha, that’s not an option, my friend—but I could definitely use your expertise with my question.

I'm guessing he meant 4.56 gears.

What are you planning to do with it? Note that I do some fairly extreme stuff and I don't have have performance rear driveshaft, performance brake lines, or a reinforced front axle.

hey buddy. I’d be taking her mostly to the dunes as I live in the gulf region. He definitely mentioned 2.56. But thanks for your insights.
Cheers..

2.56 is not a thing. If it were it would be a disaster.

No judgement. Either he misspoke, or he is mistaken, or you misheard. 2.56 isn’t even in the ballpark for what your describing.

Dunes shouldn't be an issue for a stock setup. Unless, of course, you plan on getting air frequently.

Gearing is about RPM / power curve and where you want it. Only way to know is to drive it.
Performance shaft is only required if you have crazy angle or power, you got none of that. usually front shaft will be first as it is the shortest and the one that is submit to more angle that the back.
As for the front axles depending on what you have currently and more specially how you drive the jeep.

I would keep that money, invest it and upgrade when the thing break.

Thanks for the helpful info, mate! My Jeep’s still under warranty, so I’m keeping mods to a minimum for now. I’m not doing extreme off-roading yet, but I do take it out on the beach sand in winter—which is basically now.

I was really excited and happy with the new look and setup, but then my buddy made me second-guess it, so I had to come to this forum to get some advice from the experts!
Cheers 🍻

Your buddy might not be the best source of info for things like this.
