Modifying red dash

I'm curious if anyone out there has a 2021 Rubicon with the red dash. The red is a bit much for me and I was thinking of covering it. is it possible to cover it with vinyl wrap or would that disable its ability to be effective with the airbags?

Only thing I’ve done is this (pic attached). There’s some cool decals on Etsy.
I’ve been looking into getting the leather Sahara dash... about $300 tho
I’ve also thought about taking it out and painting it to match my sting gray color

Vinyl will likely keep the panel from splitting if the airbag deploys.

We were thinking something similar. If we ever get the keep. Waiting is hard.

Option 1 - You can find silver / leather / white / etc. OEM panels on Craigslist/FB/here for cheap sometimes.

Option 2 - Paint them!

Option 3 - Buy the OEM panels new from a Mopar Parts site. Use this for part numbers, then price shop around as they don't always have the best pricing: https://www.allmoparparts.com/part-ymm/2021-jeep-wrangler-jl-trim-kit.html

Wouldn't suggest double-sided tape on covers or vinyl as they'll turn into a claymore or hinder the ability for the airbag to come out.

I kind of doubt that. Have you ever had one go off in your face? It is a pretty impressive explosion. If the Sahara has leather on it and that splits, I doubt a thin vinyl wrap would be an issue.

Could always swap with a member with another trim or leather if someone wants the red. Can also buy them from the dealer, but they're pricy.

I believe the airbag actually comes out of the small plastic piece that is just below, almost behind the grab bar.

I would imagine an airbag would go right through that like a hot knife through warm butter....

I've seen what they can do. An airbag will rip through a piece of vinyl film like nothing.

In this video at 4:07 you can see the passenger airbag emerge.
