My local Sam’s Club had a small toolset marked down from $20 to under $10 (was actually marked at $14 but rang up $9+). It’s nothing special but is small and has the basics with a nice case. Has metric and SAE. Cheap and easy to store. The case alone is worth the price and you can put in more quality sockets if needed. They are 12-point and I know 6-point are preferred for some things.

It seems that the more thought you put into this subject, the larger the kit. I was hurried last Fall before hunting season and heading up to Oregon/Idaho, and my kit was recovery gear and what few tools would fit into the floor tub in the back of my Unlimited. There was the proverbial bailing wire as well as some zip ties. I have the 100 ft roll of bailing wire I bought many years ago and pulled about 10 or 15 feet off for the Jeep. Turned out it came in handy on my first towed trip for the JLUR. The pins for the shackles where I connected the safety chains seemed to want to vibrate out. Some wire thru the drilled thumb flat locked them.
