I do know there is a transmission control module (a separate computer) for the automatic. Mine failed and was backordered causing the buyback of my first JLUR.
I would suspect this swap would be rediculously complex.

"in my opinion" is not a requirement--

W.E.

JIMBO
Gotta agree with Jimbo here, when one makes a subjective statement the fact that it is an opinion is self-evident; stating “in my opinion” is an uneccesary redundancy (to border on redundancy myself).

This is why I laugh when people get all puffed up and offended on Facebook and even in person and start stuttering “well, well, well, th-tha-th-that’s just your opinion!!!1!1” -yeah, no shit, that’s why I said it. Don’t let the fact that I’m confident enough in my opinion to state it as if it’s a fact intimidate you.

But anyway, as @JIMBOX always says,

Whateva!!

Regarding the auto vs manual, I'm lovin my auto and V6. Way more power and driveability than my B-I-L's 08 JKU. I drove his again after I bought this JL. Night and day difference.

My brother asked me this question the other day. He's about to buy a 2019 with a 3.6, manual trans. He's driven my 18 JLUR with a 8 sp auto.

After thinking about it, this may end up being a simple, if somewhat expensive swap. Aside from needing a transmission, he'd need a compatible transfercase. But the original question, and my brother's question, both go to the difficulty of interfacing the auto trans electronically. Given the experience with my 2018, I'm beginning to think it may be as simple as a harness change and JSCAN option toggling.

I still say post #2 itt is the correct answer here. It would be better to just buy an Auto.

I've had/have both and the NEW 8 spd auto/w manual control is BY FAR, the best tranny portion of 4 wheel drive--on road/off road-

Autos makes off-roading easier for the masses. Manuals are for the enthusiasts. I love my manual backing the 3.6 in my 2018 Rubicon. Since changing to 35s and regearing to 4.88s, it is a beast off-road...4-lo - 1st gear is a C R A W L ! ! ! ! :CWL: :CWL:

Let me correct you.

Autos makes off-roading everything easier for the masses.

It needs some skills to drive and scroll on your phone at the same time.

In the late 60s, at 12 years old, I learned to drive a 46 Dodge pickup around my uncle's yard. It was 3 on the tree. But, I didn't have a phone to text with at the time.

Damn you old. I mastered the manual driving in a 2000 gen 6 civic with a sweet short shifter.

My first manual was Dad's Land Rover...I just pulled it out of his shop after dropping things off for storage...and my memory of that was Dad running alongside the land Rover screaming "Push in the Clutch...Push in the Clutch..." as I screeched the tires because I let the clutch out too much. I learned to drive a car in my grandmother's VW bug, which was also a manual. Been driving manuals off and on my whole life. Only made sense for me to get my Jeep in a manual.

My brother was just musing about the ACT clutch problems with disengaging that the particular jeep he's buying has. Frankly, I think we can solve the problem with a new throwout bearing with a metal bore, polish and hardchrome the trans snout, and by replacing the plastic pushrods with metal on the master and slave.

If this was a TJ, CJ or older, the trans swap would be simple and makes sense given the scarcity and/or sentimental value of the vehicle.

You can throw a rock and hit dozens of JL/JLU auto trans examples and swapping one vehicle for another is cheaper. If you owe on the vehicle the swap is a financial challenge beyond the scope of advice on the Internet.

3 on the tree in high school.…you learned to shift left handed while you steered with your knees to keep your arm around your girlfriend. Probably looked dumb, but you know priorities. I chuckle when these young whippersnappers act like driving a manual is some kind of badge of honor. We were poor and didn’t have anything else and didn’t know any better.
