Long story short I have to have surgery on my left knee and won't be able to wheel my jeep for possibly 3 to 4 months. So I have searched all over and nothing really comes up about anyone doing this swap. I can do all the work myself and source the parts but am not sure about what I need to do with the computer stuff. Any advice is appreciated. And NO selling or trading in my jeep is not an option, I have it built just the way I want it. Thanks

You’d be money ahead trading and building the new one exactly how you want it.

I get that but I don't owe any money on it and highly doubt any dealer would give me anything close to what I have in it. Tons,40s,coilovers ect ect.

Ahh I gotcha. In that case I’d reach out to one of the prominent engine swap shops to find out what kind of computer shenanigans you’ll run into. Also any wiring harnesses that might be different. Everything else should be pretty straight forward.

I think this is the best bet.

I feel like It would be cheaper doing an engine swap then what you're talking about doing.

They have long-term rental companies. If you go first cheaper crappier car you can usually get a much better rate. I used to have a Camry, was in the shop for a month one time. I rented a vehicle from Enterprise was only like $38 a day, which in your case would still be cheaper than a transmission swap.

Ya well an engine swap starts at 35k and I am totally fine with the 3.6 right now and it only has 30k on it. It is not my daily driver so not worried about down time.

So you want to spend a bunch of money to swap the trans for what will amount to 3-4 months of not being able to shift the manual? Park it and drive something else is my vote.
From my searches for parts should be able to do it for less then 5k. And I have a big trip to Moab at the end of next month. But may have to watch from the passenger seat.

What's the surgery if I may ask. Swapping from a manual to an automatic seems pretty drastic if your recovery period will be 3 to 4 months. Is there a more fundamental reason ie wanting an auto instead?

Fractured knee cap and severe torn acl. I would have chosen an auto over a manual when I purchased the jeep but couldn't pass up on the good deal.

Unfortunately I’m moving in a month or I’d be able to help with whatever you end up doing.
I feel like buying an auto and swapping the parts would be more effective in the long run than trying to swap trans and deal with the electronics.

I appreciate that. I may look into finding a totalled jeep for the parts and do the swap.
