I get under the jeep and see the front corner of my engine oil pan bolts have oil on them. Not enough to cause drops on my driveway but very wet. I can see oil seepage coming from somewhere higher above the oil pan coming from the engine area.

ok trip to dealer for investigation and they find

1: Oil pan gasket- AFTER INEPCTION FOUND VEHICLE UPPER OIL PAN TO BE LEAKING AND NEEDS RESEALING.

2: Oil Separator: VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN AND FOUND VEHICLE OIL SEPARATOR TO BE LEAKING OIL FROM DOWN SIDE OF ENGINE AND NEEDS REPLACING

3 TRANS : Automatic Transmission Concern [CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE HAS SLIGHT HESITATATION TO ACCELERATE WHEN COLD] (W) Automatic Transmission Concern —-
Turbo(s) Rebuild/Replace: AFTER INSPETION FOUND VEHICLE TUBRO TO HAVE EXCESSIVE PLAY ON TURBINE CUASING VEHICLE ACCLERATION TO LAG

Jeep was running good, no noise, no smell of oil, and after 30 feet of forward movement in the morning everything was up to power. I figured it was just cold trans oil temp.

In another couple months I would be out of the standard manufacturer warranty. Friday I will ask how much repairs would have been out of warranty.

Make time and look things over.

Nice save! Dealership didn’t let you know when you took it in for oil change ? That’s why I do most of my own repairs.

My oil life is at 13%, so last oil change was a while back. This is a new development.

Ah I see. I drive truck and we need to do pre trip inspections everyday by law. It kind of stuck and I just inspect my jeep about 3-4 times between oil changes. Nothing crazy I just take a peek in the engine bay, the Undercarriage etc.

Related question: folks with skid plates, how often do you take off your skid plates to inspect your engine/transmission/transfer case, etc?

I change my own oil on all of my vehicles for 2 main reasons: it saves me money, and it gets me under the vehicle every 3k miles where I have the chance to look for any small issues before they become big issues. (Don't start with the 3k oil change is overkill, my engines last a very long time and the price and time difference is insignificant.)
And when I wash my vehicles, I start with the engine bay and undercarriage, so any leaks will be much easier to spot. Plus a clean engine runs cooler.

How do you wash the engine bay? I’ve had vehicles (trucks and cars) for 10, 31, 12, 12, 14, and 21 years and have never washed an engine bay. I’m a little paranoid about getting water on all of the electronics in there.

The stuff under the hood, especially on modern fuel injected vehicles, is sealed very well. It has to be considering how much water gets up there when driving on wet roads. But I have washed under every vehicle I have owned, just pulled the air cleaner and covered the carbs with a plastic bag. I have had a '48, '62, '70, '76, '78, '84, '87, '90, '98, '02, '08, '12, '14, '17, '21 and '24 (probably forgot one or two, LOL).
Now I use my cheap Harbor Fright electric pressure washer to do the engine bay and undercarriage. I use a foam cannon attachment with Dawn dish soap to get everything soaped up, let it sit for one beer minutes, then rinse with a wide angle nozzle, careful not to get too close to stuff that might be damaged by high pressure. Then I dry it a bit with my cordless blower.
Dawn is the very best degreaser you can get that is mild enough it doesn't cause any issues. But DO NOT use it on the paint, unless you are planning to immediately put on a protective coat of wax/polish/whatever coating you like, as it removes ALL protection.
On my older vehicles with distributors, I have rarely had a slight misfire after getting it that wet, but a little WD40 on the wires will displace the water. Never had any issues on my newer fuel injected ones. If any hoses or wires get displaced, you needed to fix them anyway!

If I was out of warranty the cost would have need $4500 parts and labor.

Advisor said the oil change got included into the warranty work since they had to drop the oil pan anyways.

oil change here runs $126. So that was a nice no charge visit. There must have need some leakage around the turbo. Jeep feels peppier after the repair.

I use the gentle Mist setting on my garden hose nozzle to pre-wet the engine bay, after which a sudsy sponge is used for handwashing. The same Mist setting is used to rinse everything off.

There hasn't been any related issues to date on anything I've owned, including the motorcycles...where I actually have to be more careful, since some electrical connectors aren't as well-protected as they are on the average auto.
