Hi. I recently posted about the all 9’s mileage when I start the jeep. I received the bulletin to show dealership. Have not had a chance to take the jeep in yet tor that. Well yesterday when I started the whole display was blank except gor what gear I had it in. I played around with the settings and it came back… but when I started it again I had a blank screen again. Does this fall under the same bulliten or is this a whole new issue?

Wife’s Jeep used to display the Herman Cain (rip) Tax Plan too, it never went blank though. Finally about a year later the dealer flashed it and that fixed it.

Hey there, mine went blank too and only worked if I shifted it into a gear, or made a phone call. So what I did was, I made a call and reset my setting to default. Then I turned the Jeep off and turned it back on and that seemed to work.

Maybe try that? Hope it works. If it didn't, my next choice was the dealership.

Marilyn,

The Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) on your Instrument Cluster should never be blank or dark when the Ignition Switch is in either 'Accessory' or 'Run' position. If it is, something is wrong.

Unfortunately this does sometimes happen and luckily for me, it actually did. With a very rare positive twist of fate I ended up paying almost $9K below sticker for my 2019 Sport S 2 Door 3.6L Auto. My lucky day. Really.

In the summer of 2019, the original owner of this JL brought it back to the dealership with less than 900 miles because of the exact same issue (dark EVIC display). It's the same issue in which you are also currently experiencing. However, this particular dealership couldn't fix it, at least not quickly. After a few months of aggravation and many headaches, she initiated a Lemon Law Claim and ended up with a Sahara for her troubles.

The dealership finally replaced the entire Cluster but in their infinite wisdom they improperly configured it for a Sahara rather than a Sport. [My suspicion is that they canibilized a Cluster from another unit they had in their shop for an entirely different Cluster related problem.] Afterwards this replacement started blowing 'Automatic Headlamp Dimmer Needs Service' faults. Of which the Sport model certainly has no circuitry for.

We'll this vehicle then remained unsold and in their inventory for another several months. I'm guessing that no idiot wanted a slightly used unit blowing a fault code. That is, until I came along...

That's when I just haphazardly ran into this vehicle while walking through their lot in the fall of that year. I made them an offer which surprisingly they didn't say no to. So I got an almost brand new Sport S with just under 1K miles for $28K. Noting that the original sales price for this particular vehicle was $37K and was indeed comparable with other similarly equipped Sports on their lot, at that time. They obviously wanted this specific unit out of their hair and more likely, just off their books.

I promptly then drove it to a different dealership where they replaced it with a properly configured Cluster, all under factory warranty. It's been working flawlessly since. I'm now currently at 31K happy (blissfully) driven miles. Best daily driver I've ever owned. This thing is a blast.

So be careful in which dealer you take yours to. It certainly does make a difference. Obviously, not all dealership service departments are competent enough to solve this problem correctly.

Good luck. Hope your cluster outcome is as awesome as mine was.

Jay

Odds are you just need to flash your Jeep. You can do this in your garage if you are shy or you can take it to the dealer and they have some guy in the back who will flash it for you. Ask them to check for any updates.

I am shy, lol. How would I do this in my garage? My screen went blank a couple days ago and has not come back. Thanks!

Actually, a cluster flash (reprogramming) is more sophisticated than it may seem. There's some coordination between not only the cluster but both the engine and body controllers that have to also be performed in order to not disturb the odometer. Tampering of actual mileage is a criminal offense so it needs to be performed properly with some care. Most dealerships don't have the authority to do this. A cluster reprogramming must be handled by a certified authority while the vehicle itself remains sequestered so the odometer can't change while the reprogramming is accomplished.

It took several days for my cluster to be shipped, reprogrammed and returned for my specific repair. All while my vehicle was parked at the dealership.

But, rest assured it is indeed fixable.
