Hello PhoenixJLUR,

Thanks for providing a full account of your experience. I understand your desire to reach a solution for this. We can necessarily give any technical feedback as to the diagnosis you were given since we're not trained technicians. Are you thinking you'd like to get a second opinion from another dealer? Send us a private message if you'd like to take this route.

I just saw a YouTube video of a JL owner who had this noise and it was the transmission. He hasn’t seen it since July 6th, because the transmisssion is on backorder. It needs to come directly from the transmission maker, not Jeep.
If it's the 8spd automatic(Torqueflite 850RE), FCA in fact make these transmissions.

Jasmine,
I too have the noise however mine comes and goes. I stopped at my dealership today but the noise stopped before I arrived...I ask the techs to please research this on line because as I was trying to describe it they were clueless and asking me questions to try to help figure it out...One person thought it might be the WIND! (I am a woman). Obviously THIS is a known issue, WHY is there not a comment of what to tell the techs or why do the techs not know about it? It AMAZES ME that there isn’t a coherent awnser to tell us what the issue is...I think it is a KNOWN ISSUE & THAT CHRYSLER HAS DEEMED IT NOT DANGEROUS so the Company does NOT WANT TO DO A RECALL! You respond to comments ā€œPlease feel free to send me a personal messageā€. I was required to give an email address, Please feel compelled to reach out to me. And, new to this so I do not know how to PM you...and one of the posts on this thread said it was his Transmission which is on backorder.

Hello and welcome! occasionally with mine I notice a "whirring" sound might be considered a "whine" I usually notice it going downhill coasting sometimes it will stop if I put my foot on the brake? I also notice it will go away if I shift into neutral. Not sure what it is I just hope the jeep is just learning my driving technique, if not will have it addressed during my first oil change service only have 1500 miles on mine and a month old
I have 11500 miles on mine and it started making a loud whirring noise downhill when I come off the gas quickly, usually in 3rd gear getting ready to upshift to 4th. I'm not sure if it's gear related or RPM related. I'm going to bring it in to get it checked out, but it's hard to reproduce. I'm really tired of the "unable to reproduce" "operating as designed" responses to these sorts of issues. I'm probably going to wait until I can absolutely reproduce it before bringing it in. Please keep us posted if you figure out what is causing this.

I remember someone on here about March or April having a very bad leak, with pictures, but don’t remember any more. Maybe you can search for that thread.
I had a transmission leak that left me having to be towed to the dealership on day 3 or my ownership experience. It was probably leaking on delivery, but I wouldn't have noticed when it was parked in my gravel driveway. I'm now having this loud whirring noise and wondering if it's related to damage from the leak or something altogether different. The whirring started at about 10K miles. I too have the 6 cyl. engine. I'll bring it in for service when I can reproduce the sound more reliably, otherwise it'll be a wasted service visit.

I have a 2019 Rubicon with 4500 miles on mine - no hills here, just interstate and city driving. The whining slows down and stops when I am stopping.

Hi BethInFl,

I am very sorry for the delay in response. Dealers have resources as guides in order to repair vehicles. Since we are not technicians, we can't necessarily advise on that from a technical perspective. If you'd like, feel free to give the team we normally escalate to a call at 1-877-426-5337. From there, they can create a case and work with the dealer in an effort to repair your Wrangler.

I have a 2019 Moab, Transmission began whining on acceleration in second and third gears. Initially dealer said it was tire noise, eventually got them on a test drive and they confirmed it is the transmission, opened a star case and Jeep acknowledges it is a reported issue but refuses to fix it and dealer will not back me up. Worst support I have ever seen.

That sucks! I do not think that is my issue from reading about this transmission u believe this is how it feels and adjusts to your driver style in time! wound the transmission temperature guage alert you to this? Sucks there is no dipstick to check levels
Mine has a notable whine but only noticeable notes that the windows are down and the top slid back. How does one check the fluid levels?

I'm going through the same situation on a brand new Rubicon. It's almost like a loud fan coming coming on and then subsiding only to start again as you accelerate. I have a 2.0 Turbo and this is not what I expected on a $50k vehicle. I'll be checking in with my dealership because this is disheartening.

I hate to hear this, rrwins. When are you taking it in for service? If an additional layer of assistance is needed, don't hesitate to send me a direct message.

2018 JLU Sport S (3.6, 8 spd auto) here w/ 18,000 mi. I began hearing this about a year ago but it seems to be more noticeable now. Happens during most accelerations from a full-stop. I also tested this in M-mode, both starting from M1 and M2 and noticed the noise. Hoping someone on here has updates!
