Black and blue will always put you over the edge. :)

My guess on this issue is that it is related to the 8.4" Uconnect. @Arterius2 - My guess is that you, in fact, had a bad camera.

@JeepAustinWeird - Sounds like you may have a deeper issue.

I had backup lines today and was surprised. I lost a 2:1 bet with my wife. Again, reboot the system and they will always be there!
I had them on the way home today while backing into my driveway no lines on the way to work backing into my spot there. How often do you reboot your system?

I was just testing to make sure, but I have rebooted maybe 7-8 times since I got it last month. If I rebooted every time the lines were a no-show, it would be a lot more. It's a hassle and takes about 2 minutes to reboot, so I do not do it regularly. If I did, I would say 20-30 or so times would have been needed since I got it.

Seems to be the ghost that keeps giving! FCA has had rear camera issues off and on for years now.

That’s about what I figured. I thought it would be a hassle to reboot every time we lost lines. Hopefully at some point they get their head out of their 4th point of contact and give us some consistent lines so we can continue on with our first world problems. :CWL:

Jeep is pretty good about customer relations. You just have to know how to get to them. The guy I talked to was from Uconnect and knew what he was talking about. He said Q2 of 2021, but all dependant on passing all quality tests, etc.

Hopefully they can make that happen!

The 2021 Wrangler I test drove last week didn't have the lines. I assumed they just aren't a feature until I saw this thread. So this is a problem straight from the factory.

That’s right. It is a software bug. Reboot the Uconnect system and they will return. For a random period of time at least.

Does "rebooting" involve just turning system off/on or do you have to restart the engine?

Here is the reboot process:
  1. Ensure your vehicle is in park and in “Run” mode.
  2. Press and hold down the volume and tuner knob buttons at the same time.
  3. Hold down the knobs for 10 – 20 seconds.
  4. After holding down the knobs, the screen should flash your vehicle brand name and then go dark.
  5. After a few moments the brand name will return, the system will reinitialize, and it will return you to the main UConnect screen.

I got my 2021 Rubicon a month ago and am experiencing the same issue with the reverse lines randomly disappearing. I haven't found a reliable workaround. I thought it had to do with waiting long enough for the system to boot up before putting it in Reverse but there's times I wait maybe 30 seconds and the lines don't appear. It's very bizarre that there's no workaround or sequence of steps that would make the lines appear every time. Pretty disappointed. My last car I owned for 6 years and had zero issues. This one I had one month and already having problems.

-reset your radio using the above advice. Eventually Jeep will have a fix.
-check for 2” of dead spot slop in your steering while driving. If so, get it fixed or highway driving won’t be fun.
-seat your fuses.
-change your rear diff fluid at your first oil change and remove all the metal filings.
-Although I have not confirmed yet, some say to prepare for your locking diff sensors to fill with oil requiring complete differential replacements.
-lube your t-top rubber (hard top) before It drives you nuts making a creaking noise around 1,000 miles
-align your headlights. If memory serves me correctly, measure out 25ft, then up 3’, use a t40 or t45 to adjust.
-tube of touch up paint for when the front tires toss rocks against your rear door hinges chipping the paint.
I still love my Jeep though! lol!
Hopefully you have a Dealer with a great service dept.

What was your last car of 6 years?

Thanks for all the tips. I'll definitely go through these. I get a little nervous with just trying a bunch of steps to reset the Uconnect that are put out in a forum. I'd hate to mess something up even worse. Are those reset steps in the manual? Or on the Uconnect site app?

My last vehicle was a Nissan Murano. I've owned 3 Murano's. Great, reliable car. I've always liked Jeep though, so here I am. ?

Resetting will only get you the lines back until they feel like disappearing again. So you would have to reset over and over. Eventually Jeep will have a fix as it is a known problem. My guess is they will send an OTA update to fix the issue......at some point.

Ironically I was just reading through the following FAQ page and it says just that... that they do OTA software updates and when one is available there should be a prompt on the screen for the update. Will be patiently waiting for that day. I'm getting really good with parking though without those lines. ?
