I picked up my JL on 15 Feb and don't have guidelines now either. At first I questioned myself as to whether they were ever there in the first place... :) I am in the over 50 club....

So far I’ve been having good luck:
-vehicle running radio ON
-press volume and tune together for 10 seconds
-shut off Jeep
-open/close door
-start Jeep
-turn on radio wait for it to boot up
-put in reverse
LINES ARE BACK!

but don’t worry, the lines will vanish again in a few days lol!

I have it too. Been going on and off. I have an appointment with the dealer, but my luck is that it will be working when I take it in. 8” radio, less than 300 miles. Disappointing Jeep/FCA.

This thread was started in 2018. That’s 3 YEARS ago! And 4 model years!
Jeep has no idea how to fix this or else a 300 mile brand new 2021 Jeep would not be experiencing the same problem.

One would think this is resolved. In another chat, JeepCares responded that it is a known problem:
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/backup-camera-issue.3500/post-1437914

I made the mistake of taking it in to the dealer to get it 'fixed' today and I returned a handicapped Jeep in return. The backup guidelines were back, but here is a list of things that did not work:

- My A/C on automatic would not display the temperature,. only Hi and Lo when you push the blue and red temp buttons. Boy did it get hot (I was a little perturbed too) on the way home. (also the same results on the touch screen. You could set it to 69 degrees and after a second or two, it would revert to Lo with the heat continuing to blow).
- Homelink did not work
- Off Road Pages - gone
- No backup camera in controls

That's all I found. I did a reset by pushing the volume and tuner button in for 10 seconds and releasing and all back. Hurray! Wait.. Guess what, the backup guidelines disappeared again. Oh, wait, another reboot fixed it. They are back now. Please Jeep, lower my frustration level on my 1 week old Jeep with 350 miles! I have now spend three hours at the dealer only to be disappointed on the way home.

I talked to Jeep Cares and I am told that this is a software glitch in the UConnect system. New software should come out Q2 2021 to resolve it. I have found that if I reboot the system, the backup lines appear 100% of the time, (until they don't).

Here is the reboot process:
  1. Ensure your vehicle is in park and in “Run” mode.
  2. Press and hold down the volume and tuner knob buttons at the same time.
  3. Hold down the knobs for 10 – 20 seconds.
  4. After holding down the knobs, the screen should flash your vehicle brand name and then go dark.
  5. After a few moments the brand name will return, the system will reinitialize, and it will return you to the main UConnect screen.
I hope this works well for you.

Welcome to the club @pilot00. The Uconnect specialist that I talked to was very informed and said that the target for the fix was Q2. I just ran an errand and I put mine in reverse and was pleasantly surprised that the lines were there. Such a high-quality camera with the 8.4 radio. I am very impressed.

This happens to me also periodically and is usually more of an annoyance than anything else, as I don't typically back into parking spaces.

Is this something that is just one of those things that..."oh well sometimes happens" or is it indicative of a bigger problem? I am trying to determine if I need to take the time out of my day and incur the inconvience of going to the dealer to have them "check out" my jeep for what they told me could take 24-48hrs.

I also periodically get a message that my blind spot monitoring unavailable (or something like that), but unlike when my reverse guidance lines vanish, when I go into settings and manually uncheck and then recheck the blind spot monitoring, it immediately returns to functioning and operational..ie don't have to turn off jeep or let it sit for any period of time.

It is a known issue higher than the dealer can handle. All they will do is flash your computer then the lines will be there. When you get home and back in they will be gone again. The issue is being worked and there will likely be a patch at some point. Until then the recommendation that I support from earlier in this thread is to make a game out of whether you will or will not have lines! :CWL:

Hmm.. the dealer apparently fixed mine by replacing the camera unit and harness.
Never had any issue with the camera since then. (been 6 month)

I used to have this issue once or twice per week.

Also for reference sake here was the record for what they did.

Maybe the "blue or black" part was able to put you over the edge to be replaced. I don't have those issues. Just the intermittent lines.
Black and blue will always put you over the edge. :)

My guess on this issue is that it is related to the 8.4" Uconnect. @Arterius2 - My guess is that you, in fact, had a bad camera.

@JeepAustinWeird - Sounds like you may have a deeper issue.

I had backup lines today and was surprised. I lost a 2:1 bet with my wife. Again, reboot the system and they will always be there!
