I completely dislike all these huge gaudy screens that are appearing in vehicles, especially since they are so flakey, and lack any real purpose for such a huge screen.

All I need is an aux plug and an amp, the phone handles everything else much better than any infotainment system I've seen.

If you replace the 5" with the 8.4" you will lose your volume and related controls (except on the steering wheel) unless you also replace the HVAC control panel.

There are many ways to do this ... some cheaper than others but the folks at Nismopar at least have it all mapped out of you

https://nismopar.com/jeep-wrangler-jl-8.4-radio-nav-upgrade

I did this on a "Sport" Gladiator ... new radio, new HVAC .. worked just fine. The Taser or another programmer is required to tell you jeep that it has an updated HVAC but other than that it's mostly plug and play.

Yup I have watched a lot of YouTube videos. Volume on wheel isn’t a big deal to me..

I have had 2 individuals say they have what I want but amazingly they are brand new members with no posts.

Yeah. If it weren't for the fact that half my vehicle options are only accessible from the UConnect screen, I'd happily remove the damn thing, stick a single DIN radio in there, and have an empty shelf underneath like you could do with the JK.

I upgraded from the 7" to the 8.4" and love it. The screen feels so much bigger and I use CarPlay all the time so having more real estate was worth it to me. The off road pages are a nice bonus too, even if you do need a SGW bypass installed to get the gauges to work.

I got it for around $750, brand new from a forum member, so it was a good upgrade in my opinion. What's worth it to me may not be for everyone though.

Hi, newbie here. So my 2018 JL Rubicon (7" screen) was acting up (rebooting, no nav, radio, heat, etc). Replaced the battery, no joy, had to take it to a dealer where it's been sitting for a week. They say it's a bad radio and in 2 weeks they will know IF they can get a new radio for $875 +labor.
Checked out infotainment $2k-$3k for refurbished OEM, not happening. Went to MOPAR, they can have it to me in a week. But which one? They have 3 that will fit, from $641 - $941 ($835 w/discount). All they have is with black and tan trim, but all the bevels seem to be black, so I'm hoping it won't make a difference. Installation videos on youtube look pretty straight forward. It had all the bells and whistles before, and I don't want to lose that. I'm thinking I'll get it back from the dealer and order the most expensive and install it myself.

Thoughts/ideas welcome.

2018 Rubicon JL, 2.0 ltr engine, E-Torque system (no aux battery), winter package (insulated hardtop, heated seats, remote start). Factory Bose sound, Sirius XM, navigation

The dealer never gave me that option. I wonder if they will even give me the old one back if they replace it.

Ask around in a few dealers. I had a text and took a picture of the dealer I talked to, and he told me about the remanufactured ones.

I have seen plenty for around 400 bucks. They would be used. I just saw one go for under 300 on Ebay. The remanufactured price for me was for the 8.4 so should be cheaper for a 7 inch. Just make sure to get the anti-theft code if you go that route, I f you get remanufactured one would not need code.

I think I'd prefer to get a new one from MOPAR. I have horrible luck when I cut corners or try to save an extra nickel. The main thing is I don't have any wheels. This is my (until now) reliable daily driver.

Just got home yesterday from working out of town.. My Uconnect 8.4 was waiting for me. Very easy to install. I had the anti theft code put that in and voila it was working.. I had a few hiccups. At first the front speakers were not working and the volume really wasn’t working .. no backup camera either. Left it alone for a few hours came back and checked later and everything seems to be working as it should. The camera finally showed up. So far happy with purchase.. So have the theft code written down and also have the radios original vin number.. My understanding would be I put that vin in to see if there are radio updates..

I think I figured out why my GPS thinks I am in another state. Being a used radio on a vehicle that it came in with a GPS antenna. Mine came with the small 5 inch screen and no GPS . My question is the reason it does not know where I am is because I do not have an antenna? It shows me driving but not on any roads LOL..
