My question is there are so many part numbers or SKU's for these radios. I went on the Mopar website and found out all the ones that said this will work in your vehicle. Anyone know why so many and what the differences could be? I have also discovered that since I have the 5 inch now it looks to me that the bezel is the same part number as the 8.4 inch bezel. 6AB55TX7AB so would not have to buy another one.
the list:
68497069AD
68497067AH
68461705AE
68429180AB
68497071AA
68497060AH

There have been several updates to the 8.4” since first released in JLs in 2018 and there are 8.4”s that have nav and do not have nav.
Your best best it to get a current SKU/part number from @AllMoparParts.com and go from there.
I’ll add that the 5” bezel will not work with the 8.4” Uconnect. You’ll need that as well.

I wonder if it can be swapped to any screen,
Thought it needs the dealer input, firmware update to work..
Not plug n play..

FCA/Stellantis/Whatever has changed these radios quite a bit over the years. They updated the display to address delamination. They've tweaked the software to accommodate the 4xe.

The mounting hole positions of radio is the first step in confirming fitment. As long as the upper screw holes are at the top and the holes for the bezel are on the sides, it will fit. The Challenger, for example, has upper screw holes on the side and the bezel holes on the top and bottom.

The next step is the version of the software installed. You'll want something running 28.3 or newer to avoid the infamous aircard issue that burns out the cellular connection on the radio, killing the navigation as well as any chance of updating the unit.

There is also a UConnect 5 version of this radio design and is incompatible with the JL CANBUS. Half the features won't work.

And as far as navigation goes, there are actually two different model types of the same radio: UAQ (comes with navigation) and UAS (no navigation). The UAS was never offered in the Wrangler, but I don't see why it wouldn't work if OEM navigation isn't something you're interested in. The UAS units manufactured after 2018 still support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

My 2020 replacement radio came out of a RAM and rebranded itself to Jeep.

So, if the mounting holes match the Wrangler, the radio is a UAQ, and its running 28.3 or better, it should work. If you can somehow confirm these things with the seller, you're good to go. Make sure you get the 4-digit security code for the radio.

Do you remember what your part number was? And did the holes line up?

Just curious why you are looking for a 8.4, I have it, it's mostly gimmicky, buggy, prone to weird issues and not sure who would fix it if there is a problem. It's an expensive unit with little value IMO

I just got my Jl in October so it is new to me. I do not like the 5 inch at all. Really want plug and play so I want an 8.4. I know they are expensive that is why i am looking for a reasonably priced one.

I have the 8.4, basically all I use it for is to play mp3s off a usb stick. Personally I would not go the 8.4 route if I didn't have it, it just came packaged with the Sahara.

The Nav is cumbersome and useless, mostly outdated that cost money to update, I use the phone for NAV, podcasts, streaming music etc

I upgraded mine from the base 5 inch to a 5 inch with SXM and then to a 7 inch. Boss Lady’s Jeep and the Gladiator I had both have/had the 8.4 and like stated above by @BXFXJeep the 8.4 is really not much of an upgrade from the 7 inch. We use our phone for Nav anyway. Save a bunch of money for other upgrades and get a 7 inch radio.

I ordered mine off Infotainment.com before prices went super stupid. They keep a collection of radios specific to compatible vehicles, so yeah, it fit just fine. I'm afraid I don't have a part number, though. There are probably a dozen variations of the mounting hardware.

When Jeep was replacing the 2018 radios with dead aircards under warranty, even they were using used radios out of other vehicles, primarily Wranglers and RAM trucks.

As far as radio swaps are concerned, there really aren't better alternatives. Unless you're going for a unit that includes an amp, speakers, and is a complete audio system replacement, these Chinese head units running old versions of Android are pretty bad. The software is sketchy at best, but more importantly, most do not have any kind of long-term support for the software. Likewise, if you're a huge fan of third-party apps, you're going to be limited by the Android version the unit runs because they're typically not upgradable.

Yea I do not want anything other than stock . I have installed radios before on my older Jeeps but not willing o take that chance on my 2020 JL. I want to be able just to plug and play pretty much. Infotainment is just crazy with their prices so not getting one from there.

So like I originally said, ask @AllMoparParts.com for a current SKU/part number and go from there.
Once you have a good part number, you can start looking in the marketplace on this forum or other spots like eBay, the gladiator forum, etc.

I did what you’re trying to do, on two different vehicles. Despite what others have said, the 8.4” is a huge upgrade from the 5” piece of junk that Jeep doesn’t bother to include on lower trims anymore. It’s that bad.

My experience across a few Uconnect systems, I would not spend money buying one, even if it's cheap.

I personally don't get any value from the 8.4, all I use the head unit for is to pass through audio, everything I need is on my phone, so what essentially happens is I have this huge LCD eyesore in the middle of the dash, the 5" seems like a blessing.

Yeah, I'm not necessarily defending UConnect, either. It's just a real shame there isn't a company here that can do a nice solid aftermarket radio with a decent UI and some kind of backend support. At the end of the day, your options aren't what's the best alternative, but what's the least shittiest.
