I know there are some threads out there already, but they are a little dated, looking for a fold up platform rack for my JLU, 2 ebikes and not off roading, just highway. The 1up is in contention, as well as the amazon cargo/Bike rack below. Ideally it would be something I could leave on for the summer. Have to swing up for sure so I can get it in the garage. Appreciate any input. It really does seem like 1up checks all the boxes, but would like to hear any other suggestion, or real world experience with 1up. TIA!

This has potential, but looks like the bike rack part is an afterthought. I do like the versatility though, and I would have to install a swing adapter, or maybe just a tilt adapter. Anyone running this?

I’ve got a great recommendation, but will have to go look at the brand name as I’ve forgotten.

I’ve heard that the Hollywood rack is very good also. As a former Pro-Level Bicycle Mechanic, I look at things this way, DON’T get a cheap rack. You have a 40K vehicle, and 2 e-bikes probably worth close to $3000-4000 between the two of them. INVEST in your rack!

Agreed, want to do this purchase once. I have a halfway decent one now that I used for non E bikes, but have a long road trip coming up and I want something bulletproof built for the long hall. I will take a look at the Hollywood rack. Thanks!

I know that sooner or later I’ll have at least One E-Bike. I really like the stuff that Area-13 shows. They seem to be a pretty fair Bike Seller and one that I would use if I lived closer.

Listen through this video especially the way the rack tightens to the receiver. Seems like a really good idea.

I was just checking that one out, looks really nice, wondering if it will fit on a JLU and clear the spare. Definitely on the top of my list along with the 1up at the moment.

That is something I had not considered. Of course when I started looking at these, I only had my 2020 Subaru Outback and this would have worked fine for that. Then you go on vacation, so a Jeep that you want as a replacement that you gave up a number of years ago, and the Rack and the bikes go away for a lil bit! LOL!

I have and use the 1 Up USA double Super Duty with fat tire spacer kit for three plus years. IMO it is the best built bike rack for my needs. NO PLASTIC. I had to put an 8” Curt hitch extension to clear the rear spare. I exclusively fat tire (4.5”) mountain bike year around and it is very easy to load bikes. I use it 3 times a week. I did install Air Lift rear bags on my 2022 2 door Willys which helps to keep the rear end level when loaded. They make a single or double. The only thing I had to add was rubber inserts on the wheel trays for my studded tires in the winter.

Thanks, seems like a quality unit! I assume that when it is in the raised position it is blocking your rear view camera, not a deal breaker, but just wondering. I plan on keeping this on my rig all summer as I tend to drag my bike everywhere.

You have been out of the game a LONG time. I wouldn't even sit on a $4000 bike these days
Things I KNOW have passed me by, along with time. I stopped full time wrenching in 2009 during that recession. I went and got my CDL to drive Tankers and hauled fuel for a few years. You do what you can to get by…

Oh I do see the pricing on bikes these days and it blows my mind for sure! I just bought two new Teenage Bikes for 2 of my grand kids. Paid less than $200 each from Walmart. Each one of the kids helped me tear them down to basically a bare frame, they waxed and cleaned the frames, and we lubricated and adjusted what we could. I did this with my Kids at this age and each one of my grandkids so far.

Had I stayed with it over the years, I “might” be able to justify the pricing that has gone into modern bicycles. But due to conflicts with the Manager I worked for at the time and his lack of understanding how to properly work on carbon fiber frames and press in or glued in bottom bracket shells, we parted company. I guess my 24 years worth of working on Airframes for the USAF didn’t amount to much to that manager!
