You know… that probably would have worked. I cut the end of the L off trying this (the last hole is threaded):

Another option in this vein. There is a "thicker" version of a nut called a coupling nut, that is made to connect two threaded shafts. If you put one where @BDinTX put these brass fasterners, you can use a bolt to connect the upper lines:

Depending on the current needs, I've used both the 6 circuit and 12 circuit versions from Blue Sea. You can get them with or without the ground side. I typically use the power and ground versions to keep things tidy.
