With the soft top, are you ever really locked out? :) Glad they are taking care of you at the dealer.

Stupid question: if you have push button start and proximity keys, why take the fob out and put it in the cup holder?

I have push button start and proximity keys on my F-350. The reason I want both on my Jeep is because I literally never have to touch the fob or take it out of my pocket. Taking it out and putting in the cup holder sort of defeats the purpose for me.

I sometimes take my Fob out because left in my pocket, the Panic button invariably gets pressed by a crease in my pants when getting out, and dependent where you are and what time it is, that can be very annoying to others! I never worried about locking it in the vehicle, because you're not supposed to be able to do that (and I have accidently tried on occasion) but after reading this thread, I now know of a condition where you CAN lock your Fob in the vehicle - so will think twice about setting it in the console.

Bottom line, you should never lock your doors if you are not in possession of your key, my key almost never leave my pocket, it only has my office fob so zero need for it to ever leave my pocket while in the Wrangler, my house key and door fob is on another ring and in my bag, and that never leaves my bag, before I lock my Wrangler, I still I check for my key before hitting the button on the door, when I get home, I lock the Wrangler, open house door etc, clip the house key to the Wrangler key, everything goes back in my bag.

I just got back from the driving to the Grocery store where my wife just locked HER keyfob and phone in the car after loading and closing the Tailgate of her 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk WITH Proximity locks and ignition. So YES your a better person then my because this never happens to you, yes I SHOULD be more mindful, Yes I should be paying $12 a month so I could use an app on my phone to unlock my car, YES that same phone should be in one of my OTHER pockets, and YES I SHOULD eat more vegetables. But shit happens. I'm just looking for a solid solution to stash a physical key on my Jeep(s) to UNLOCK a door.

I'm not gonna pay $12 / month just for an app, no way in hell.

You can also download a uconnect app and open it with your phone.

That's a paid subscription service after the one year is up. Down side is the service is spotty and at least for me, only sometimes worked.

Problem solved. It was a weak battery in the fob. They covered it under warranty but MSRP on that little jewel was over $50. Works like it should now. I'd still recommend everyone with the proximity lock check theirs by rolling down the window with the fob in the holder. lock the door with the button on the way out and see if it locks when you shut the door. It should beep 3 times and unlock. If it doesn't, the fob needs a new battery. I guess mine just failed early but I would expect this to be more common as the JLs get older.

I bought a spare battery at Walgreens or smoke such place for +/-$5. Charging $50 is blatant robbery... It takes less than a minute to swap it out.

laid down my keys accidentally in a store last week. It was great being able to unlock the Jeep and load my shopping using the app before going back in to search for my keys. I think the fee they charge is a bit ridiculous though. I’ll have to decide if I continue after the free trial.

Mad Hatter,

You can open the hood without the alarm going off. Using the mechanical key to open the door activates the alarm until you hit unlock on the fob. I don't know what triggers the alarm. Unlocking the door does not activate it. Opening the door does. Maybe an easy way to add the hood to the system would be to add an additional switch tied to the door switch. The key only opens the drivers door, I don't know what would happen if you unlocked the door, reached thru an open window and opened a different door. ???? worth playing with since it would be nice to have the hood tied into the alarm.
Not true. Opening hood when vehicle is locked WILL sound the alarm.

Beg to differ. I know for fact it does not sound on my 18 JLUR.

OK Peeps - I don't have my Jeep yet (first order made it across the country but was destroyed in the train derail, so now ordering another), but am trying to find out ahead of time if indeed the alarm (horn) sounds if you open the hood when the doors are locked. Here's two opposing opinions - which one is right? (just in case, I have ordered locking latches - but really curious)

There is no hood alarm. That’s a definitely absolutely not on any (stock) JLs sold in North America.
