Looking at getting Kayaks. I have a 4 dr with soft top. What are ways of hauling a 10ft kayak without buying a thousand dollar cargo system? Is there something cheap that will work on top with soft top down? Can I fit it inside.and let it hang out over spare? Everything I fou d 9ncthis site is for hard top or a 1500 roof system

Not exactly cheap, but... I have the soft top version of Exposed Racks, linked below and purchased used from a member here. I have not used it for moving a kayak, but I have used it for paddle boards with no issues. It should work fine for a kayak. The only thing that bothers me is that anything wet or dirty put up there is dripping into the Jeep since the top has to be down. I have used a Rampage brief top and a JTops sunshade to help with that problem. They both fit under the rack... not well, but good enough to keep stuff out.

Still pricey but looks solid. Thanks

I have the rack on my 2Door and I love it. I don't leave the front bar on when not in use bc it clutters up my open air feeling but I just used wing nuts for those 4 anchor points. works great for a quick on and off. I've carried 2 paddle boards and 2 paddles at the same time and a few sheets of 4x8 plywood too. I have onboard air & tank so whenever I'm loading the paddleboards after use I just blow them off quick.

Does this kit come with just the rack or do I have a also purchase something to add on to it for kayak/paddle board

Its complete, you'll only need ratchet straps to anchor your yaks. If you want paddle holders they are separate but not really necessary.

You can add the kayak inserts if you opt for the bars with click in system, but they just add to the cost. I have one pair and they work great. I also just use a foam pad sometimes, and it works good too.

So I would say the click in bars with the kayak accessories is the best option, but you'll be fine with the plain bars if you want to minimize the cost.

Will these racks work for a 12 ft kayak.? Worried it's to long

My 2 boards are 11FT and I cary more than safely on a 2 door. I wouldn't worry about a thing using the under soft rack on a 4 door especially. This is of course if you ratchet strap them correctly
