Doesn't look safe to me. Too much torque due to aerodynamic forces.

It works perfectly fine. It is not only attached to the hitch but has 3 straps that hold it in place. Solid built. I used to have one, and took my kayaks everywhere. On the freeway at 70mph+ through the desert going to the eastern sierras. It doesn't move, it doesn't make noise, I didn't even have to adjust straps. It is perfectly safe. It even held my kayaks in place on a freeway crash. If you are going with a hitch rack for kayaks, skiis, etc. This is the absolute best option. I now have a new Jeep with a hardtop so I went with a different rack system.
