Does the 40A juice box charge the 4xe without issue? I would think the 40A charger would be able to negotiate down to 32A if that is what the vehicle requests.

If yes, then why ever just get the 32A model? Seems best to play for the higher 40A to future proof the buy in case you get a second EV.

The 4xe itself limits the input to 32amps, so the 40amp will work just fine but you should have it wired to a 50amp breaker.

Some people only have a spot in their electric panel for a 40amp breaker, so they would need the 32amp EVSE.

The Jeep can only use up to the 32 but will be able to use the 40. I went with the 32 to save a few bucks and I felt like the future may bring the need for something very different. Also, I have a VW ID.4 that is full electric, it still charges the VW in a nice amount of time with the 32. So the 32 meets all my needs and should do so for quite a while.

Was looking at my electric panels more and I probably need a load calculation done to see if there is any issue supporting an additional 40A breaker. In Texas heat with 3 heat pumps, pool, and all electric for the house. My main panel is a 200A service so I was thinking maybe I would be over it’s limit. I do have a sub panel in the garage with some space…..but not sure on the total system load I can support so probably need to get electrician to verify I can add the extra load. Does anyone know ballpark where the limits are on a 200A service?

As EV's are becoming common, You are better off investing in a charger capable of delivering more Juice.

ChargePoint Home Flex, is great. In the mobile app you would select 40A breaker and it will deliver 32A [even if hooked on a higher A]

You would be better prepared for a future EV with a charger capable of better delivery and install a 60A or 80A circuit breaker almost at the same cost, if you install yourself [in my case i did myself], it is even better. Do check with your electrician if you are not comfortable DIY.

Check your main panel to which your garage subpanel is linked and on what circuit breaker it is linked with. Whats the total Amperage on it. If it is below 50, You probably will have to upgrade the wiring [unless you know the guage of the wire and capable of load]. Just be mindful about how many things you are running at the same time.

In my case, on my main panel circuit breaker, 100A Circuit Breaker is linked to garage subpanel. On my subpanel i maxed out at 150, I turn off my use RV plugin (50A) breaker when not in use. I regularly use chargepoint hardwired to a 60A circuit breaker. In your case, if you go that route, you can simply plug into a 50A circuit breaker and adjust settings in the App.

You probably wouldn't want to exceed 160A on the main breaker. I have a 100A sub panel to my garage but the 32 only needs a 40A breaker (over the 50A a 40 needs). In reality since the Jeep can't pull more than 32 you should just count that for now.

But, I do agree that calculating your house usage would be wise.

BTW, my house was built in the 60's and originally only had 60A service! That was upgraded to 200A years ago.

Appreciate the comments here. My house has gone through about 3 remodels over the years and it was built in the late 60’s as well. From what I can tell, I have a sub panel feeding another sub panel to our garage addition.
the feeder looks to have 70A at 240 going to garage. Then garage has heat pump and air handler at 30A breakers each, plus some other plugs/lights. There has to be some derating calculations and assumptions that things are not hitting the system all in parallel. Due to this…probably need electrician to assess as mentioned. Thanks.
