I see a ton of options around for rear deck solutions, however they are all taller than what I need. I'm looking for something simple, doesn't even need to have drawers (but might be nice). Need something with a solid top with 6 inches underneath for storage. Outcome here is to be able to put camping chairs, Coleman stove, etc. underneath and be able to have groceries or dogs laying on the top. There are cool deck solutions, but everything I have seen is 12-18 inches high. Too high for Dogs to jump in or lay comfortably and not optimal for loading groceries. I may go DIY, but if anyone has seen anything would appreciate some insight.

I've been looking for the same. You're right, a lot of the options are so high that with items on top, it would block your view out the rear. I'm thinking maybe 12" max height, drawer(s) might be nice (?).
Being a carpenter, I'm thinking a plywood box might do the trick...but that always looks so 'homemade', I'd rather have something premade that is a custom fit.......

Same page. I may go the craftsman route, but really don't want a wood solution, alot of weight. I want something study but light so it's easy to pull out and get into the compartment under the rear trunk. I'll definitely post if I find something. Seems so simple, I was sure I'd find something quickly.... unfortunately not the case.

This is a molle platform solutions rear rack that I bought and custom built some brackets for and did not use the side brackets that came with the rack. Chairs, tarps, hammock, solo-stove and other small gear stays up there and I still have the whole floor for , food, luggage and groceries.

I also looked for the same type of 'low profile' shelf, with no luck. I have started a DIY setup, so far only have the 'deck' installed using 3/4" HDPE. I have enough left to make another shelf, just trying to figure out the best way to go about it. The smoked acrylic seemed like a cool idea, but I will probably replace it with hdpe. Hopefully I can get around to the 2nd shelf in the next week or two.

Will do. I would like another HDPE 'shelf' above this one about 1 foot or so. Not sure if I should try to suspend that, or build up from deck plate.

I ended up replacing the acrylic lid on the storage 'tub' with a lid cut from the same HDPE material. The radios are mounted to the new lid, with a shelf/top over them. The lid is currently bolted on, I ordered some 1/4-20 x 3/4 thumb bolts to make it easier to remove the lid and access the tub area.

I know this is not exactly what you are looking for, but it would be easy to customize the dimensions of the shelf to accommodate the end user's specific needs.

Nice work for sure, thanks for sharing. Not exactly what I need (as you mentioned) but helpful as I think thru options.

bthomp - As I keep searching, this popped up.....might be too high for you, but it seems ok to me. 18" of storage underneath is fine and the profile is thin just throwing it out there: https://www.amazon.com/Hooke-Road-I...r_1_17?keywords=wrangler+rear+deck+JL&sr=8-17
Thx Naz! I had looked at that before, if it was easily detachable that would meet my needs well. Storage for daily driving, remove for when dogs are in the back. That said, It appears bolted to the roll bar.

I think just the holding brackets are clamped to the roll bars (?) Then the shelf just slides onto the brackets. That's what I saw, could be wrong, but that's why I liked it.....
