Oz spec Rubi with low rider fender flares. This may be the final nail for me.... why they have to dumb it down for OZ is a mystery to me, is it just a lame attempt to keep the cost down?
Anyway thought I might share some of the options prices:
Electrical group (AUX switches, 240 Amp alternator & 700 CCA battery) $532.00
Rubicon Luxury pack (Leather seats, door trim, shifter, heated seats, steering wheel & body coloured fenders) $1364
Tow pack $1213
I think the electrical group is worth the money, especially if you plan to fit a winch. Hope US high rider fenders are at least an option because the 32 inch tyres, low rider fenders, no colour option roof & most likley plastic rear bumper are pissing me off Jeep. And if I choose leather, I get colour coded fenders, which I don't want because they get scratched up. This is adding up to me looking elsewhere. Bottom line is, I want a US spec rubicon, & am willing to pay for one, but not if I have to make so many compromises......
Check it out below, right hand drive & low rider fenders. Looks semi-rendered

Thanks for the pack prices :D
yeah the imaging is very inconsistent on the Rubicon in the Aust site. the pricing guide has the usa spec, the image you showed and several others have the rubicon sticker but the low ride fenders. there is a wheels and fenders section that clearly shows the full car in RED with lowriders and the image for the wheels and comment is 32" rubber. ( which again has the wrong Rubicon std wheels, ) has the "Overseas model shown, Australian specification may differ. Consult your preferred Jeep dealer for details.:" . like why not 33 (or 32.6 / 285's) i don't get it. they using a different tyre anyway, it must be cause they out low ride fenders on.
I agree with you, they taken a winner and hacked the bits that make it look great. and then there is the pricing and heck ya can't even spec up the sport, it misses loads of options.
i will test drive , get some quote/s and find out how much to make it usa spec and then likely just go , nah too f-ing hard. will wait for the F150 plug in :D

Sorry Kezza, no details on the tow pack, but I think you summed it up. Hitch + cable.

On another note I did a quick search on fitting 35’s to a JL wrangler with low rider fenders (sport). You get slight rubbing on the street with a 2½ inch suspension lift. So you probably want a 3 to 3½ inch lift just to run 35’s on the trail. The US spec Rubi can run 35’s on the street without rubbing, off road you need a 2 inch lift. To run 37’s you can get away with a 2½ inch lift (with inner fender trimming). The combo I want is US spec Rubi with a 2½ lift and 35’s for beach and street use and a set of 37 muddies for the Glass House Mountains & Landcrusier Mountain Park. Depends on wheel offset I guess.
They must have easier rules in the US, as guys are fitting 315/70/17 & 35x12.5x17 tyres to their stock 17 x 7.5inch rims? Can’t do that here, need at least an 8 inch wide rim? Our road regs suck.

I’ll stop my bitchin now….

Yeah, but our laws limit the lift and tyre (if you wish to stay legal). The AU spec is rubber is only 32.1 or 815OD on both Rubicon and Overland ( yes same). so that means 1inch or 50mm OD increase only to what say a 33.1 and a 865mm ... so a 255/80/R17 ? less but wider or maybe 295/70R17 (bit over) or if 18" from overland 295/65R18 , a few opt in width in 32.? ,, thats if ya super concerned of course, if ya not well 35 , 37 , 38 lol

So they are Mopar, i read/ heard Mopar items are available , so maybe dealer order can incl mopar from factory ? and it might even be cheaper ? i mean those are like 1k AUD plus ship and if ya get someone to fit ..
This is the madness.. all just to get what is stock in usa. lol
i am 95% sure i am out of the JL purchase. the whole idea of going to get a JL Rubicon was so i did not have to spend thousands on after market rubber and bits, i know i will need winch cradle already. :)
i considered a Overland as it is like 1k cheaper and same rubber but on 18" and colour code roof. but then rear LSD or locker, frt bar, recovery points, that would cost more than the Rubicon option packs, so i think it is still a Rubicon or bust. :)

Allow my 2c worth..

Like for most of us here down under, the JL has been somewhat of a dream come true. No more sh!t auto 4 speed in the early model, slowing down on hills when cruising a highway, more comforts from the grand cherokee but in the wrangler platform. Seeing what you all get in the US for a standard rubicon with highland fenders and 33's stock had me sold!
Then came the EU release. Then we all knew we were about to get screwed out of some of the goodies available on the US model.

My 07 JKUR was on a 3.5" AEV lift with 35's on a zero offset 17" wheel. This was the perfect all round set up for what I do with my Jeeps. Illegal , yes. Could I be engineered in NSW yes, but i never got around to it.

Before I blow a sh!t tonne of cash buying a JLUR ill be sending all specs to my engineer first and making sure that my planned modifications will be passed and signed off on. Because I plan on doing the exact same build to the JL. However, possibly 37's now the wheel base and track is longer and wider. Highline fenders are a disappointment but they would look kinda funny with a cute little 32" tyre don't you think? Once the big tyres are on, the highline fenders can be installed. Second hand from the US or via another avenue. Point is, it can be done. And without breaking any of our stupid ADR's (Australian Design Rule to all you US folk)

Price will drop as vehicle sales don't meet expectation in Australia. Remember, Jeep has a poor reputation here. The looming launch of the JT Glad and possibly with the 3.0 ecodiesel is going to prevent people buying the first release of the JL. I know Im thinking about waiting, however I prefer the wagon to a ute.

Point is, don't let some silly fat lawmaker who picks his nose all day trying to take away our fun ruin your plans. Its your jeep, build it how you want over time and get it certified should it be a daily driver or your frequently in or avoiding accidents.

Its beyond a joke now.
i got told (2 weeks ago) that they (local dealer in Brisbane southside ) would have sport for test drive in feb, (indicating 1st of feb) and they expect to have an overland on display on 8th feb.

Yes, the price is a bit of a joke imho and yes that price has me 99% sure i won't get a JLUR or any JL and that i too will prob wait for something else to land on our shores.
I was super keen on the USA spec as it ticked all my boxes off the showroom floor. (read no extra on tyres/wheels/lift and could delay a bar until aev release theirs. yes i would add my winch)). not many 4x4 come with the lot off the showroom floor. maybe the ranger raptor is the exception in Aust.

A Bright White 2020 JLUR
Hi everyone!
This is my first post on one of these forums so excuse me if I’m a bit of a noob.
So I’ve had my eye on the JL for the last year and it’s finally on its way. No, it’s not as great at the US version (I LOVED the higher fenders on their Rubicon and feel so slighted that we won’t be getting them!) but the new soft top is enough to help me ignore other misgivings.
My (first world) problem is that I’m tossing up between engines.
Mileage isn’t a huge factor (but definitely a bonus), towing is much more important.
We only have automatics coming our way and we have two choices of engines for the Rubicon - the 3.6 Pentastar V6 or the 2.2L Multijet II Turbo Diesel.
The tow rating for the JL is 2,500kg
I won’t be towing a lot but will be using it to drag around my horse and float which will weigh around 1,500kg-1,900kg.
The diesel definitely has more torque but it’s power drops off a little.
I’m attaching the spec sheet and would really appreciate anyone’s thoughts and input. I do understand the basics of torque and power but not enough to adequately compare the petrol vs diesel in terms of pulling power.
There is also an additional two month wait (or so I’ve been told) and $7,000 price increase for the Diesel engine.
Thank you in advance!

i not sure where jeep aust are getting this 2.2 td from, as far as i know there is no diesel available in the usa in a JL right now.
i can say the DI petrols ( gas) have loads of torque and they have it low in the rev range and carry it all through the range.
Maybe try and find a dyno result of the JL 3.6 i think there was some in the forum, i recall seeing it.
honestly you really need to drive both and see. but for $7k more, i would be saying no way to the TD.
