JL spacers

Hi everyone,





I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL Sport that I bought used, and I’m trying to figure out if the previous owner installed wheel spacers.





I can’t remove the wheel right now to check directly, so I’m hoping someone with more experience can take a look at this photo and let me know what you think.





From what I can see, I don’t notice a clear spacer ring, but the gap looks a bit unusual to me.





Does this look like it has spacers installed, or is this just how the stock setup looks?

Looks like a 12mm spacer to me. One hopes that they put longer studs in there, else your lug nut thread engagement may be very marginal.

You need to pull out at least one lug nut and see how much of the stud is protruding, and count how many turns of the lugnut when you took it out. These types of spacers without longer studs are a no-no.

I'm guessing the first picture is the spare, it definitely has a spacer, but I don't see anything on the others, but the close up photo makes it hard to tell out of context.

Yes. These pictures had me guessing at what I was looking at. Because it is a safety concern, if he has that 12mm spacer in the running wheels, he should make sure it is either not there or safe.

You guys are better detectives than me, but I thought the first photo may be a 1/2" spacer as well. That's a huge "danger signal," especially if the drive wheel lugs are stock.

I used 4 x 1-3/4" spacers on the axle wheels my 2018 JL because I wanted to keep the stock alloy "pocket" wheels with 35x12.5x17 KM3s. Not the best setup, but it worked.

Why in the world would anybody put a spacer on the spare tire carrier wheel? Simple way to carry a "spare..." I guess? idhac!

if you look at an OEM plastic bumper a bigger tire on stock carrier hits the bumper and the spacer pushes the tire out enough to clear.not saying it is the best solution or if that is why his has it but I know some do it for that reason.

Do your tires stick out pass the fenders? Or close to the edge? This is another way to check visually. I run spacers 1 3/4 inch on a Sahara and tires stick out past finders

Got it. My 37" spare fit the stock carrier and bumper, but I had steelies. My 2025 had the plastic bumper and no way a 38" was going on the stock spare carrier, even with a spacer.

I pulled the plastic bumper off (sheesh, only about 10lbs to 15lbs of parts) but just went with the Artec spare tire carrier delete and the Cavfab rear bumper delete for now. I will eventually mount an aftermarket tailgate carrier with reinforced hinges, but I cannot decide which one and am not in a rush. There is almost a doubling of prices between the options (EVO vs Teraflex vs others).

For what it's worth, your share about somebody asking if your tires were 35s when in fact they were 37s was the catalyst for me researching 38s. Well, that and the weight difference between the Toyo R/T Pro 38s (11.5 vs 12.5) really sealed the deal. I already had 4.88 gears.

All that said, I will still be buying a second set of beadlocks with the 38x12.5s or 39x12.5s for most challenging offroading, like Moab and such.
