I am using an old innova 3100a. It was able to successfully read the CEL / Clear codes / Check for emission ready status. They run about $100 for the newer model. Works great on just about any obd2 car.

I have been looking into these Witech scanners on ebay and wondered if any of these standalones would work with a JL. It seems like its too new but Im not sure. I bought a bluedriver but it doesnt give me enough details. Wondering if my only choice is to get a subscription from the online service for DIY repairs.

I have a BlueDriver with an iPad that can clear codes and provide Live data.

In general the SGW only causes problems when you go beyond generic scanner functions (engine faults, engine parameters or emissions tests) such as body control module faults or try to do feature programming, re-flashing. or direct modification of the data stream.

Are you using a bypass device with the innova?

no bypass device. It just plugs into the obd2 and pulls the code.

I bought a small scanner maybe 6 months ago from Group-On, primarily to use on the family's cars when codes are thrown. I've used it on older cars without issues (My TJ and '98 Accord). When I got a CEL a few days after buying my JLU and wanted to see the code to research a potential issue, I was actually able to see the codes and also remove them (they triggered again after a few miles of driving).

It's somewhat similar to the unit anotheraznguy has.

So, SGW can be affected by using a device like FlashCal when using to things like: "TPMS on/off" or "Lock Rubicon lockers in 4-HI"? Will this device read which version of power steering software is installed on the JL? If not, which device would? I can't trust Jeep dealers to even get 5 quarts vs 6 quarts correctly, much less trust they updated the software correctly.

Do you keep the BlueDriver plugged in all the time? If so you notice any drain on the battery?
