I searched for specifics on installation and activation (programing) of a Salvage Yard Sun Visor with Home Link so to have a garage door opener to operate as an OEM product in my 2025 JLU. There are several threads on the replacing a non-Home Link Sun Visor with a Salvage Yard or even MOPAR OEM replacement visor with different options for "straight wiring" the Home Link wire at the replacement visor, therefore, making the Home Link buttons active all the time. I, like some others on the forum, didn't want the garage door opener buttons active while parked in the driveway and allow unauthorized entry into my closed garage. There are several ways to skin this cat (sorry Cat Lovers, no harm meant). In my previous Jeep, a JK without Home Link, I modified my Craftsman clip-on garage door opener by soldering wires to a two-way self-centering round button switch; hid the Craftsman opener behind dash panel and drilled a hole to mount the button. Most people wouldn't even notice that button let alone think it was a garage door opener. However, it did allow the possibility of unauthorized entry if my JK was outside the garage in the driveway. There's absolutely easier or perhaps more efficient ways to accomplish the Garage Door Opener issue. Yep, just clip it to the sun visor; however, I chose a different route. Here's how I skinned that cat (we do own 2 cats, and they weren't injured nor abused during the installation) as they curiously watched while I proceeded with my install!

Background: 2025 Wrangler JLU, '41 Green Willys WITHOUT the Convenience Group Package (No Home Link Garage Door Opener), One-Touch Roof, Preferred package 24W, XTREME 35" Tire Package, 8 Speed Auto Tranny.

I first ordered a Sun Visor w/Home Link from an on-line salvage company. It came out of a 2024 Jeep JLU - Wrong! I found out the hard way the difference between the 2025 JLU and previous year model JLU's reference the side Air Bags. The 2025 JLU with side air bags has a different Sun Visor connector, mount, and a shorter wire (picture comparing the two attached). Yes, I could have cut the wire on the 2024 Sun Visor and rewired it to make it work. However, I elected to find another Visor from 2025 JLU. Fortunately, the same on-line source had a 2025 JLU Sun Visor w/Home Link that became available a few days later, it is an exact and easy swap. The only thing left is to activate the third wire in the Sun Visor Harness via the Body Control Module (BCM).

My son already had the ALPHA OBD Program using Android tablet and OBD Bluetooth adapter. A Secure Gateway (SGW) cable is required to make changes to the necessary line in the BCM. I searched different forums but never found the "exact" procedure and specifically which line to modify/change/activate so the third wire is operational. I found many different ALPHA OBD procedures via Google but never the precise verbiage. So here goes:

1. Swap old Sun visor with new Sun Visor - two Torx screws and a wire connector. Level 1 stuff.
2. Remove knee panel below steering wheel using plastic tool; 6 clips holding it in place. Install SWG cable. Install OBD Bluetooth adapter.
3. Place IGN to "ON", Engine NOT running
4. Using ALPHA OBD:
Select - Jeep
Select - Wrangler JL
Select - Body Computer
Select - Body Computer MY 2019+ Power Net
Select - Connect
Select - Car Icon at bottom of screen
Select - Car Configuration Change in the drop down menu
Search at top of screen for "UGDO"
Select - CBC Configuration I/O: Connector G Pin 15: UGDO Feed Output
Select value as - Yes
Select - Start
After completion of change EXIT program and turn IGN OFF.
Remove SGW Cable
Replace knee panel
Wait for instrument panel lights to extinguish.
Home Link button should now illuminate with the engine running
Program Home Link Garage Door Opener with appropriate procedure as per your opener.

This is a little lengthy, but maybe will help others to make the same installation using ALPHA OBD.

GOOD LUCK!!

My next modification is new front bumper with a winch.

Here’s the pics. Notice the mount base, wire length, and connector type differences. The short wire is 2025 model and the long wire is 2024 model.

The Homelink garage door opener in our '23 Grand Cherokee does 't work. That's on the short list for the techs at the dealer to investigate if/when I ever need to take the vehicle to them for service. In the meantime I purchased a Liftmaster remote and programmed it to our opener. $20 and done.
