I installed the hook today. It turned out well. I took the original tape off and put on 3M automotive tape.

You will truly like the hook. Consider cutting a small V notch in the hook. This will keep the tether from easily falling off the hook. IF, you decide you want a longer tether, it is easily doable.

Yes, upgrade to 3M tape to secure is a positive move..

Thank you for the original idea! I think the new teather straps are shorter than the older ones. I measured it out and the end of the strap wedges nicely between the hook and the cap, so that it stays fairly well. The strap is not long enough to hang off the end, if I were to make a notch.
