Has anyone figured out how to remove the front cupholder for cleaning? The JL catalog states that its removable, but I haven't found anything about it in the owner manual. I've tried pulling on the square plastic bit at the bottom in the center but it feels like if I pull any harder something's gonna break.

UPDATE:
Appears you need to remove the plastic trim to get the cup holder lining out. The connector for the light is under there.

Now trying to figure out how to get the cup holder removed from under the trim to remove the lining.

I would not recommend trying to remove the lining from the top. It is proving to be a pain to put back in and there is no way to remove it without removing the trim anyway.

Will keep posted once I figure it all out, unless somebody else can save me the trouble.

Ignore the photos. They show what not to do. hahaha

Did you figure it out? My detailer ripped mine out of there to clean it, now I need to figure how to get it back in there. It looks like the shift lever bezel needs to come off, but I'm not sure how it comes off.

Did the detailer rip the rubber lining out to clean it or the console? I got the console removed but still didn’t have access to where the lining is. No need to remove the shifter bezel on mine, it i have the manual trans so yours might be different if it is automatic. I gentle pried the console loose starting from the back edge. Just gently wiggle/lift up/down and the tabs will start to release. There is another plastic piece underneath that seems to hold the cup holder in place. That was the piece I haven’t figured out how to remove yet. May give it another go this weekend.

I was able to get my cup holder liner back in from the top (mostly). it it took some work. I recommend using something like a dull like popsicle stick. I used a flathead but was close to tearing the rubber so i had to be really careful. Trick for me was starting at the front and then coming around and getting each tab to catch. Work the edges in and hold them until you can get the next tab. To fit the tab into the slot i would lay the tab sideways and then push down on it with the flathead and then push it into the slot. The tabs are hollow so the collapse easier if you lay them sideways i found. Once the tab is in you can slide/wiggle the rubber until the tab catches in the hole. Then continue to move around the cup holder to the next tab.

I’m a bit disappointed the lining isn’t easier to remove. Seemed it would have been a nice feature as it is always a pain to clean up spills out of the holders.

Thanks Jeepsterfreak and jeeplllllllo. I will now more wisely spend my time -- patiently working those rubber pieces back in there with a spudger. Or maybe I'll just cut them off and have a mostly-removable cupholder.

I'm sure my detailer -- who works on lots of high-end vehicles -- was certain the cupholder would come out for cleaning, and just grabbed it an pulled. It came out alright, but he got a big surprise.

Here's another opportunity for our aftermarket friends to come to the rescue.

I would not cut them otherwise the liner will just collapse and pull the edges out. They are pretty much required to keep it in place.

And I am glad I decided to gingerly try to remove the liner as I almost broke/tore the same area as in the quoted thread. The liner is permentantly hooked around an inaccessible tab (at least for now).

Agreed, the liner is not easily removable and i would argue that with the amount of work and disassembly required, that it isn’t removable. Would be like marketing the engine as being “removable.”

Good luck with it.

Yeah I did find that you can remove the console by opening the door above the gear shifter and inside that there are two white clips on the sides then lift the entire console

Proof you can get it back together without taking it all apart. The tool is from iFixit. Took about 20 minutes start to finish. I only used the flat end so that it I didn’t pierce the rubber in any way. The trick was to push the pin into the trim/hole first. Then keep working it in and lining up the rest of the surrounding rubber as you go. I recommend not doing the two closest to the shifter last because having the extra slack to seat them came I handy. I made a video too, I will see if it came out and throw it up on YouTube if it worked. I just kinda set my GoPro down and shot.

I messed mine up a little when putting the cupholder back in. Since it is only 2 weeks oldies replaced the bezel.. I have the old one and could part with it for a little cash if anyone needs to replace a badly damaged bezel. Its for an auto.

I fill the bottom of the cupholders with sand. The sand absorbs everything and I can just vaccum it out to keep them shiny clean underneath.

What does the cup holder from the bottom look like? I'm curious if the liner is sealed where the light shines through?
