Here's a handy dandy drawing.

Just setup the scaffold an inch or so below the level of the hard top on your Jeep.

Grab a friend to lift it up slighty and just move it over to the scaffolding. It doesn't weigh that much.

It will sit on there very securely. I put 2 ratchet straps on it but they are not needed.

I rolled mine to the corner and store stuff underneath the back portion of the hardtop as well as underneath the scaffolding.

luvHydro...I do the same exact thing! I have a harbor freight cheapo winch in the joists that allows me to lift the top up, then I drive out and roll the painters staging under. Then I lower the top onto it. all of 15 minutes! then roll off to the side of the garage and where I keep my rider mower under it.

That looks pretty cool actually. Can you measure the width and depth like that? I have a spot in my garage that I think it could fit, but I hadn't realized the doors would be so wide -makes sense when you see it like that. Also, this might be a silly question, but what do you do with the rear doors? I have a spare harbor freight furniture mover thing, that I think I could repurpose to hold the rears.

I like your comment about doing this with one person, that is what I am looking at as well.
Well, I have a two door. So no rear doors to worry about. ;) But yeah, there's only mounts for one set of doors on it, unfortunately.

I'm planning on getting her naked this weekend. I'll measure it then for you and report back.

I bought this: Garage Smart Hard Top Lifter

I wanted something I could do by myself, and FAST. Is it expensive? Yup. Worth every penny. I knew if taking the hard top off was going to be a chore, I wouldn't do it much. I can get my hard top off in no time with this thing. It's fantastic.

Okay, measurement is a little rough since it's not consistent width top to bottom, but its about 50" x 66" with just the hardtop (2-door) on it. Add about another foot for the doors. So about 78" wide with a set of doors. Give or take a little, depending on how evenly you set the top on it. You can cut the 50" width down by a few inches by folding the cart's handle down, but I always leave mind up.

I forgot to mention that the doors tend to swing a bit, so I also took a couple soft velcro tie-downs to anchor them via the inside door handles to the hardtop hoist strap, just to keep them from waving around while I roll it.

I've done this as well. My Bestop Sunrider stores neatly there as well.

I laugh because I have the same blanket under mine (mine was a HF freebie)

My gradeschool drawing was more entertaining and my garage is not nearly that clutter free. ?

Lol, yes your drawing was great! HF blankets are also great! And the clutter-free garage is thanks to my wife who is very clean. ? So clean that the space you see is normally occupied by her car. My poor Jeep has to brave the elements.

I use a hoist I originally built to remove the fiberglass shell from my 1990 F250 when I was restoring it. That shell weighs around 300 lbs. I also used this hoist to take off the 8 ft bed of the F250 so it’s more than strong enough for my Jeep top.
It uses a boot trailer crank, 4 pieces of angle iron that span 2 joists each, and another section of angle iron that spans 4 walls studs. 2x4 supports that run floor to ceiling. The spring bed frame was taking space in my garage and is now a perfect addition for a place to store the freedom panels. I use the Topsy lift that mounts lift brackets under the rear hatch hinges.

Sorry if I missed this already but what does the JL hardtop roof weigh?

I did some looking at my garage and have determined that the rafters are actually 2X6 in construction so that is a plus and might be able to support some weight once we figure out where we might want to hang a roof at.

Depending on the weight I might do some weight testing and see how it does for supporting the weight. Come winter we might get up in the roof and add some 2X4 hangers to tie the house roof to the garage roof.

It weighs 100# without panels. You're fine with eye hooks into a 2x6 for sure.
