Who’s that? The guy who’s been here long enough to have seen this discussed to death 6 other times?

Don’t get me wrong. I wave, and I don’t want discourage anyone’s discussion of the topic.

<soapbox rant>
My irritation is two fold: 1) people don’t search before starting new threads, 2) forum search is not so good (Google with site keyword, however, is excellent).

Take the “does Tazer parasitically draw the battery” topic. Currently, there are FOUR threads discussing it. I’m keenly interested in that topic, so I have to monitor all of them. Then, yesterday, a guy starts a brand new thread on the topic to say, “I saw this discussed and am here to say I’m not affected.” :facepalm:

I get it. I do. It’s a forum with thousands of members, and new ones join every day. I’m human and get annoyed like the rest of you, from time to time.
</soapbox rant>

:beer:
You are right. Our search function is very limited, but googling seems to be excellent.

This is my first Jeep and I must say, I am surprisingly bad at the wave. I will gladly wave back if I see it in time, but am hesitant to wave first. I don't want to be waving at somebody's child driving their Jeep, I'd much rather be waving at the person making the payments, so I'm trying to see who's driving first and then I miss a lot and don't wave in time. When I have it together, my Jeep wave looks a lot like a peace sign, but really it is me saying 2-door is the way to go, so I'm not being all that friendly 80% of the time either. Looks friendly though.

I'm in Rancho San Diego. So far, I'm just the weird dude.
I just got my Rubicon on 12/31/18. I went up sunrise hwy on 1/1/19, it was iced over for all 35 miles. Every Jeep waved. I’m in Lakeside/El Cajon, I’ll be other guy waving back lol

I do think it has a lot to do with the area of the country. Where I live, "the wave" occurs about 90% of the time. Tinted windows will sometimes camouflage the wave both incoming and perhaps from my own rig since mine are dark too, but most jeeps I pass will wave first or return the gesture. Never got the finger though...again...maybe region?

The only caveat is something like Jeepfest. When you put 10,000 jeeps together, it's tough to wave at everyone. ;)

I would say about 70% wave here in Northern Virginia, DC area........the other 40% usually flip me off. (Just kidding) :)

I wave all the time when I can. I have a manual so sometimes my right hand is doing the shifting or on the shift knob and left hand is not in the proper waving position on the wheel. I have might have missed some here and there, but generally speaking, I wave. I am proud to drive a Wrangler and it doesn't bother me whether I get a wave back or not. I would say 70%-80% of Jeep owners wave here in Indiana and Michigan.

I knew about the "Jeep wave" before I bought my Wrangler. My wife had a Grand Cherokee, then a Renegade before I bought the JL. In both of those, the waves were very rare so I assumed it was an over-hyped myth. Apparently not. The day I bought my Jeep (well, I guess the day I test drove a JL before ordering it), I had someone wave at me. Now that I own one, it turns out it's just like a motorcycle. Waves are a regular thing. On the bike it's kinda down to the side, and the Jeep it's kinda like a peace sign.

OP you're doing the "special" Jeep wave with dual jazz hands. It works really well when you have the doors off, because you can really hang out there. The next best option is to do the jazz hands out the Freedom panels. :cwl:

Here in Ohio, most of us wave to each other. Maybe the Midwest is just a little friendlier ;)
I was going to say the same thing. I get/give waves all the time. I guess we're just nicer folks around here.

..... That weekend I got 6 of the 7 Jeeps I saw to wave. Mostly just a peace sign from the steering wheel. .....
That's generally how the wave looks. So much so, that the logo for the program is essentially that.

Yeah me either. Sounds like CA is a little cranky.

My buddy, a Wrangler owner, told me about the wave so I was aware before I bought one.
I have been waving at every Wrangler that I see and almost all of them wave back or wave 1st.
I never feel bad if they don't wave back. I just assume they didn't happen to notice me, just like I'm sure that I don't notice every Wrangler I drive by. Sometimes we are focused on other things .

Here in Portland, OR I'd say it's about 75%, which is about the same as I see on my motorcycle. Now, head over to central OR and it's darn close to 100%.
I would agree w this. Every wrangler waves here in Oregon. At first my wife thought I was so dumb for waving, then she realized it is a real thing and actually thinks it's cool now. She even waves when she is driving!

Lots of waves here in Vegas, unless it's some old woman who is oblivious.

My PDX/Beaverton experience is similar, however I’d add that men wave 80-90% of the time and women are maybe 30-40%. My wife and daughter are trying to bring that up, though!

Agree with you on Bend...nearly 100%. Makes me smile when we head over there!

Here in Iowa when I got my first Jeep TJ in 1999 almost everyone waved. Now with my JLUR I would say I get a 50% wave. When I'm out in my 1973 CJ5 I still get the wave from 90%. I personally think people who have been Jeepers for a while wave, the new folks just think we're the creepy people.
