So, I've read repeatedly about the Jeep Wave and thought it was kind of cool. A fellowship of sorts between like-minded enthusiasts/fans. Having ridden motorcycles for years, I figured it was similar to what I experience on two wheels. I have to say, I'm starting to think it's a myth. It seems no one in my neck of the woods is eager to wave from their Jeep to me in mine. Any of you in Southern California consistently waving and getting waves? Maybe I'm doing it wrong. It's half your body out the window with both hands outstretched and enthusiastic jazz hands, right? I'm going to be so embarrassed if it's supposed to be spirit fingers and I've been doing it wrong this whole time.
UH OH....I thought you waved with your middle finger

I live in the Seattle area, and I get about 8 out of 10 waves constantly. There are a few old people here and there that don't get it, but for the most part, the entire PNW area in on board with this tradition.

99% of the time on my Harley I don't wave. In the Jeep every now and then. I don't initiate it ever. I'm sure a lot of folks them it's a fun thing to do, but it gets old really quick. But I wouldn't ever harp on anyone who does it all the time. Good for you!

I am that crazy guy always waving at every jeep i see. lol, but being from so cal, most people who buys a jeep will never take it off road and dont care about anyone but them selves. So i figure it you do not wave back. you are a mall crawler/ none car enthusiast and hate your life. Sounds kinda of douche of me as i re-read would i put but hey, if you can wave at someone regardless of the jeep wave you are not a happy person and you can stay in your miserable bubble. lol to the rest of you happy -jeep wave- ill stay in my happy world where you smile or wave and hope it makes someones day better :surprised:

I've been in a Jeep for over 25 years, the wave is so automatic for me I will wave when driving the wifes SantaFe (yeah that gets me weird looks at times). I get more waves from cj, yj, and tj's than from a JK. Think soccer moms and I don't know what to call the guys started getting them to stay away from minivans and just don't care, so 4 doors only get the wave if they are not stock unless they wave first.

I live just off campus of a fairly major college and Wranglers are everywhere, many of them are driven by females. Anywhere near campus I don't initiate the wave because it just seems creepy but beyond the campus area most people around here do the wave. I think it's a pretty cool thing.

Also in Seattle and also wanted to mention that most people wave. Even if I dont start it, I usually get the wave anyways

This is my experience in Eastern Ohio. CJ’s, YJ’s, TJ’s, and modded JK’s and JL’s wave back with a high percentage.

A wave from a stock hardtop unlimited is an extreme rarity.

That's true, I've noticed that myself. Maybe it's because most hardtop unlimited owners are soccer moms and most women are not wired to wave back. They think somebody is trying to get in their pants all the time so they just ignore the wave for self preservation. There.....:)

I feel like I am bringing this back to my neighborhood (pats self on back). I am getting a wave back now from several Jeeps that didn't wave before. I would pass the same few (mostly JK's) and when I first got this Jeep and they didn't wave back. Now sometimes they wave first and several are women. Thinking some just don't know. I didn't until I had my TJ for a few weeks. Had to google "is waving to jeep owners a thing". Its worth a google. I will say that typically the modified jeeps are quicker to wave than the stock but I am leading by example and trying to get middle Georgia waving.

Wave and wave back. Be friendly. Why not? Heck, I don't care what vehicle you drive, if you wave at me I'm friendly enough to wave back. Guess I haven't reached the grumpy old man stage yet. (not totally).
