Sir, I’m curious what you liked ab
As I am approaching the halfway point of my Custom ordered and Leased 2023 Jeep Wrangler XR “Jeep Beach”, I’m starting to ponder what I’m going to do in 24-months. I got a huge employee discount and the Lease kept the payment in check, even with my wrangler being a 1-of-500 it hasn’t done much to save the value. Top that with a Major accident that had to have the frame replaced barely 8 months into ownership. I truly don’t know how to understand what the expected value/versus Post-Lease Purchase price will end up in reality.

It’s been flawless other than an unplugged heated seat that took a year to figure out, the E-Torque V6 is fun on back roads (I drive it in manual mode constantly), the top off, doors off-warm months have been great for my mental health. It’s been to Land-Between-The-Lakes, Daytona Beach, Tybee Island, malls and mud filled fields.
But it does make me want to buy it out and use it as a secondary vehicle. I am a considering Lexus GX550, Porsche Cayenne or LR Defender 110-X, even drove the Ineo Grenadier last weekend…impressive, The Toyota Land Cruiser 4-cylinder is NOT. I’ve owned 3-Grand Cherokees but the new body style just doesn’t have the same solid, go-anywhere feeling of the WK Era.

All this to say I’ve loved every second of the compromises that make up my Wrangler ownership experience. But a slightly more comfortable, elevated driving experience that reflects my personal and professional aspirations, my Big Orange Wrangler tends to feel a bit like the Matchbox it is. Waiting out the next 24-months, but hoping to make wrangler forever a part of our home so we can have our cake and eat it to. But Jeep is not part of our future List of Interested Vehicles because…Look at the competition has to offer!

Not looking to ride Jeeps up-Down product and market experiment.
Curious what you liked about the INEOS and disliked about the Land Cruiser?

I feel similarly. Not that those compromises weren't known up front - I mean, it's not like I've gotten any taller - but I'm less willing to live with them two years down the road. That's how I feel about Stellantis as a whole these days...looking back, the Jeep as a primary vehicle was an "oops". I can/will do better for my needs when I find the next thing I'd rather have.

Mine doesn't have curtain air bags...one year too early, and I didn't know they were coming in 2024. If I'm ever involved in a moderate side impact, the seat/thorax bag fires too low to protect my head and neck, which is basically almost touching the roof rail trim. And well, if I have a rear passenger, they will be dead and/or have a severe head injury.

The new side impact tests are no joke. IMO, they more accurately reflect a probable collision than the former test did.

I’ve taken multiple trips to look and drive the Land Cruiser. The engine is coarse, the sound is always present and lacks any immediacy from the Gas pedal. The interior is dark and feels like you’re sitting on the seat, not in it. Doors and hood look and feel thin. It didn’t feel like a product designed and engineered with one customer or goal in mind.

The ineos Dealership recently opened in Nashville and we made a stop to just get our hands on something we’ve watched hundreds of videos on. It was honestly a very Big surprise. The fit and finish had a solid thunk and feeling to most everything, looked and felt rugged not plasticy. The drive was very smooth quiet, zero squeaks and the powertrain responded when called upon. The steering was the oddest thing about it, but didn’t feel out of place on the highway or city streets. Great sight lines low hood, horrible through the back but it felt special, like it was built with purpose.

Plan on driving the Lexus GX550 to see if it has the same shortcomings as the Land Cruiser and comparing the Defender to the ineos, all while comparing to the drive and feel of my XR V6 Wrangler.

That’s exactly my sentiment, 2 years with it and I’ve fully realized my Likes and dislikes. The daily hop up and into, wide as the road width and drafty sub zero temps wishing for a more approachable, comfortable daily. An we’ve owned 5-jeeps that have served us incredibly well in every scenario they’ve been in!

I’m unsure of the “Meter of” “Wheeling it” that meets the unspoken god of 4X4 expectations?
I’ve had the opportunity and time to specifically take it to a dedicated off-road park twice, we spent all day driving it through rocks, mud pits, 20-28 degree hills. It regularly gets driven off the beaten path up to properties for sale, roads that have creek crossings, snow and flooded roadways.

Do jeeps have some unspoken monthly off-road mandate to meet your specific idea of the “Proper amount of off roading” has been achieved? It’s literally silly to always imply an invisible threshold, if your not flooring a Ferrari from light to light is the use case devoid of purpose? No, people still have their daily life to tend to while using these machines. If every Jeep Wrangler owners measure of actual ownership was measured in proverbial Off-Road seconds, you’d be disappointed in the group as a whole.

Everyone of our jeeps has saved us in Rain, floods and snow and I didn’t have to buy a Day-Pass to experience the best of what makes a Jeep.

Your choice of replacement vehicles say that the wrangler isn't the right vehicle for you? Not saying you can't buy whatever you want, but if you're cross shopping Lexus rx550s you clearly aren't in need of off road capabilities. There absolutely are and should be on road compromises in a truly capable off road vehicle. If you don't need those, it's probably not the right vehicle?

If Jeep and Ford were smart they would start dropping these two vehicles down soon. To be honest if I see a comparable Jeep that is $20,000 less than a Bronco, I am just going to buy that jeep and vise versa. It is like Atari vs Colecovision, blu-ray vs HD DVD, Beta vs VHS, Circuit City vs Best Buy and Gamestop vs Baggages. If only one company does this the competition will go away. That is not good for the consumer but the company will dominate. I think who ever makes the first move will win. Business 101. you can trust that who ever is late to the change will loose.

If Broncos become the cheap option I guarantee the Jeep brand will be sold to Ford.

I've owned several Wranglers in my lifetime and this is the first time I've seen such a huge decline in the residual/trade value of a Jeep. I tend to get a new car every 1-2 years and usually the Wrangler is one of the best vehicles to own when it comes to holding their value. My current '24 fully loaded Rubicon X ($78.5K MSRP) currently has lost 40%+ in one year. I know Jeep has had huge decline in sales and they are discounting new models heavily but, question is, could the rumors be true that a huge price reduction is on the way which is impacting current trade values?
This is why I keep my vehicles for decades!
I baby them and keep up with all maintenance.
I learned early on that if I wanted the newest toys every other year and my name is
not Elon Musk, I won't be retiring at 62! ;)

Bought our 2020 in nov of 19 for $46k. Looks like pp value is around $35k. Not bad for 5 years and 23k miles. Like new shape with mopar lift and 35s. I would guess I could sell it fairly easy for $34k to $36k.

Those Grenadiers sure are great looking vehicles. Two things keep me out of them for now: the fact that they didn't bother to replace the out of place oddly-designed BMW push-button shifter and the highway steering. My Rubicon XR steering is as solid as a rock and drives straight as an arrow at 80mph. I could probably hold my nose and ignore the shifter, but I'm not going back to squirrelly steering.

Sorry, but they lost me with the entry level "Station Wagon" (their model name, not mine) starting at 75K... :)
