JEEP JL Side Steps recommendations?

We just put the Rough Country Contoured Drop steps on my wife's 2022 JLU. She wanted the extra step as she is 5' 4". They have been good for Forest Service roads.

Metal Cloak makes a step/rail that is reversible. Up for clearance, down for easy entry.

Do these require removing or loosening the body bolts? I’ve heard lots of horror stories about broken body bolts. Also can the OEM Rubicon side rails be left on or do they have to be removed?

The Rubicon rock rails must be removed with these. They mount to where the body mounts to the frame. Yes, some hardware must be removed, but I have heard of no problems with this. Skip the power ones, a year later you could very well be dicking around repairing the connections constantly from what I've seen (at least in the North) and they simply don't look very strong to begin with regardless of the sales pitch - they sure look nice though
The drop down nerf bars generally are still way above the bottom of the rest of the Jeep but, yeah, if you were to "rock crawl" those it would probably not end well, perhaps real sliders and a step stool for gramma ?
