Put a new to me tie rod and drag link on. Boots might be leaking, one definitely has a pin hole in it. Not that concerned.

Concerned about the drag link always in the low position. Is this normal?

Part two is this is the drag link movement, assuming this is normal as it’s ball joints, I hear clunking when hitting low speed bumps, assuming it’s this moving.

There’s supposed to be some movement that way, but that looks a bit excessive….. joints are likely shot…
sucks. I just bought this. I guess I’ll order some replacement ends when I get back from my trip. Thanks man.

What brand is it…? You can have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you have your hand on the end link…if you feel the click and there’s side to side movement, then it’s shot… the excessive rotation can be that it doesn’t have any anti flop mechanism built in like some of the drag links do…..

These are Rusty’s Offroad tie rod and drag link that I bought second hand on here from a member parting out. He gave me a VERY fair deal, $1150 for the setup including Rusty’s sliders which they get $1400 for. I can replace the ends for $100 each, with that I’m still ahead.

Further context: I’m the guy you were helping with the steering shimmy after the lift and 37s. 5 shops told me I’m good, one shop told me I need to replace the tie rod and suggested synergy. I got this for such a great deal and it definitely helped! I haven’t had any shimmy but I can still feel it’s trying to. Maybe these drag link ends are just bad as you suggested. I’m headed out to get the 5 BoH with two members in about an hour for all of next week. Hoping the system doesn’t fail and I roll down black bear. 🐻

I have the old steering sitting on the garage floor so I was able to wiggle the ball joints. One only moved two directions and easily. The other was omnidirectional but much harder to move.

If this holds up and I replace the ends and all is great in mikes epic steering saga, I’m going back to that shop and getting ball joints and a re-gear. A shop I trust finally!
