I finally decided to order my perfect Jeep, with the intention of getting the sky top for a few years then removing and putting on a hard top
If you plan on removing it permanantly, don't waste your money on it. You'll wind up shelling out a lot on the power top, and then another 3 grand for a black hard top later on with your plan. Just get whatever top you intend on finishing out with and that will save you a lot of effort and money.

If you're intent on removing the Sky top, it would be better off just getting a regular hard top and buying a Sunrider to go along with it. It's not as open as the Sky top, but unless you have the doors off, there isn't much of a noticeable difference from the driver's seat with having the entire roof off vs just the front because of the full frame door design (IMO).

I have one, LOVE IT, and bought it assuming I'll switch it out for a soft top down the road. WHY? Right now this one's my daily driver in an urban city. I open and close the skyroof MANY times a day. It's awesome. And yeah, I ride with the windows out/down (sorry). I also have a soft top on my JK because I like those too.

Someday, 3, 4, 5+ years from now when A) one of my kids takes it to college, B) it leaks/malfunctions/can't be fixed, C) I'm just ready to really beat the crap out of it on the trails, I'll swap it out for a soft top and continue to have fun.

I'm well aware of the Liberty situation and know they're really screwed with the 1st gen skyroof. That doesn't phase me a bit because I know I'm not married to it forever with the Wrangler. Just another fun thing we can mod down the road as our needs evolve.

IDK, maybe I am weird, but WTF would you get a $5000 top, just to replace it in a few years with a real JEEP top?
ohh and for those that do not know...A soft top is the real JEEP top.
Sky one Touch is an abomination and should have never been an option on a wrangler IMO.

Did the Liberty with that craptastic roof teach you people anything?

Ever seen a pic of a doorless, side windows out Jeep with the sky one touch?
If you think that looks good, I have a piece of doodie to sell you.
:puke: yeah it totally looks like

talked to 3 shops who specifically work on Wranglers, all 3 said no problem....one of them said at most you'll need to latches for the front to secure the hard top....placing my order today :)

And I know getting it now and switching out later may very well be a waste of money, but the convenience is worth it to me. I plan on keeping the jeep forever so that's that!

Hi trailchaser,
Per page 158 of the Owner's Manual, "The Power Top is non-removable. If desired, the rear quarter windows can be removed and stored in provided storage bags." Please feel free to send us a private message if you have any further questions!

The corporate support helpful as always :-D Why does Jeep even spend money for support like this? Every dealer will tell you that this can be done. Fortunately; because in 3-5 year the skytop will not open/close or will leak. I also have a skytop and I love it now. When it stops working, I will replace it with a hard top or soft top.
I would expect from JeepCares a real help. They could get us a list of parts which we will need to do that.

I feel the same way about 4 doors. But... I can appreciate that Jeep needs to make the 4 door in order to afford being able to make the 2 door. It seems to me that most people buy a Wrangler for the looks and for it being a convertible SUV, they don't necessarily buy it for the same reasons I do. For that reason, offering a power top makes a lot of sense. And I'll be honest, if I was buying a 4 door Jeep, the power top would probably be something I look into because I really like the idea of it.
I took one on a Test drive not too long ago. Its a really nice feature, with the touch of a button you've got the open sky and you can do it on the move. I'd be worried about scratching it up though, there's a lot of low hanging tree limbs here in NC and that's why I'm not one to jump for the color matching hard top either. I can still see why people would want it though, if scratches are not a concern.

All the negative comments about the sky top are from people that don't have one. I got the sky top even though i didn't really want it (wife). The first week i scoffed at the looks of it when the doors were off and top back. But then i started using it and there's absolutely no way in hell i would trade it. It's probably the coolest feature for Jeeps in quite a while. I go topless EVERY SINGLE DAY. You can't do that with any other top unless you live in a desert or something. If i run to the grocery store, open the top. Get to the grocery store, close the top. Get out on the road, open the top. Get into some traffic and its really hot, close the top. Van Halen comes on the radio, open the top and jam out. Phil Collins comes on the radio, close the top and jam out where nobody can hear you. See how easy that is?

And i also discovered that even though i don't love the way it looks naked, I can't see that shit from the driver's seat.

Good points. That’s the beauty of the Jeep - making it your own.

Been doing research on here for a while, even posted another thread but didn't get any traction.

I finally decided to order my perfect Jeep, with the intention of getting the sky top for a few years then removing and putting on a hard top....I was placing my order and dealer told me it is a permanent fix in the Jeep and you CANNOT swap out because the rails are linked to the frame.

I have been getting mixed responses from different dealers, so I'm hoping yall can shine some light in the subject...I'm ready to go and finally join the club, but if the sky touch cannot be removed I'm not getting it....hoping it can but please let me know!
I have the Sky One Touch roof and love it. I can’t see how it would be removable without needing modifications after removal to accept hardtop. I open the roof almost daily since it it so convenient to use. A short drive with a 3 pc Hardtop or soft top is not worth the effort. I’m impressed with the wind noise level at freeway speeds. I have no regrets!

Just ordered mine! And yes you can remove but will need latches for the hardtop in the front

I just do not get it... Why get a Wrangler if you really wanted a Miata?

A dealer near me had two Rubicons with the powertops. :lipssealed:
