My Rubicon has 25K miles. I noticed that both front shocks appear to be leaking. I took it to Rydell CDJR in San Fernando, CA. They said that the shocks aren't leaking and the "mist" is normal. The service advisor also called it "sweat." My rear shocks were already replaced at 15K miles because they were leaking. Now, the rear shocks are clean and bright red with no seepage at all.

Is the dealership right, and this is normal? Or should these shocks be replaced? I put a finger mark on the shock in the photo below to demonstrate the level of oil on the outside.

a little seepage can be normal but that looks excessive. I would wipe it down and see how fast it comes back.

I consider that blown. Does it still work.

Ask the dealer if it's normal, why do the other three shocks not have oil, and why do millions of shocks not have oil.

They might fight you on if it is working right.... But is it.......

Lastly, I don't think shocks are covered under warranty after so many days... They are a wear item.

The shocks are covered under the 3-year 36,000 mi bumper to bumper warranty.

And no that shock should not be leaking like that.

I'll wipe it down and see how fast it comes back. Any other suggestions to change the dealer's mind and convince them to give me free replacements are helpful.

looking at the silver lining a great time to upgrade to some better shocks.
If I can't get them replaced under warranty, I'll upgrade. But free new shocks are... preferable.

That means the shock is losing pressure and oil and bypassing the seal. That is not normal. If you are just grocery getting, the Fox 2.0s will be fine and if you are hitting the dirt, get the Fox 2.5s. The 2.5s are great for both the dirt and the highway, if you don't overload the vehicle.

The red shocks have been crap for me.Blew the two rear on 2020 with 10,000 miles and 3 out off 4 went bad on a 2021 with 38.000 miles. You could push the shock down 3 or 4 inches with no dampening effect.

balderdash.
if this was "normal", why are the rears not doing it?

which dealership is giving you this BS? sounds like another dealership to stay away from (as too many are).

i'd consider this an opportunity to change shocks (and dealerships).

It is not normal for a shock to leak at all, especially that much.

I just noticed my rears are doing this, did my 5K rotation and OLF. 2021 JLUR 24K but I'm out of the 3/36 warranty. They are leaking despite what your dealer is telling you.

At 18.5K miles and over 2 years old, I replaced my OEM "red shocks" on my "22" Willys. The right front and left rear had the obvious wet and dirty oil on them. When
I tested them at about 3/4 compressed there was no resistance. I replaced with Pedders shocks. I didn't want the same OEM Rubicon shocks installed under warranty. Pedders shocks and springs were a great improvement. I wanted a 2" lift and have well over 2.5". Ride is so much better.

Two companies that I feel could up their marketing game are Old Man Emu and Pedders. I don't see enough people using their gear but they both make great stuff.
