If anything I'm more pissed at the government for letting automakers get away with putting outright lies on window stickers.

I've had cars that easily beat the window sticker I've had cars that get exactly what the window sticker says and I've had cars that get less than what the window sticker says.

The problem with that is the only vehicles that I've had that get less than what the window sticker says happen to be Jeeps.

Every single one of my other vehicles is either got what the window sticker said or better and none of them were Jeeps.

Obviously there's a disconnect somewhere.
It's tough to get good mileage. A lot of it is based on your driving habits, and you can say it on here how much of a perfect driver you are, but at the end of the day there's a lot of things that play into that.

One of the things I picked up years ago, from a red light, assuming you're the first person in line, it should take you 15 seconds to get up to 35 mph, if you're getting on the highway at 35 mph and it's wide open, it should take you another 20 seconds to get up to 55 mph.

Doing something like that, you'd probably piss off everyone around you, but, you'd have stellar MPGs!

Either that, or you could buy an EcoDiesel and stomp the pedal all you want and still get killer MPGs.

I probably spend a good 90% of my time on the road on the highways. Where I live in Texas, everything worthwhile is a minimum of 20 mi away. I mean most of our extended family is anywhere from 40 mi away upwards of 60 mi away. And that's just the ones that we consider local. So I mean when I'm going to the mall and I'm putting 200 mi on my Jeep in a single day, or when doing errands puts an extra 80 mi on my Jeep, that's a lot of highway driving that's going to be really good for my MPGs.

It's hard to do that in tightly packed New England. So you being in Rhode Island, I doubt you're ever going to get truly good MPGs from Wrangler.

But let's be honest, none of us bought our Wranglers for good mileage. Shoot I didn't even buy my EcoDiesel for good mileage, it just happens to be a positive outcome of my purchase.

I bought my EcoDiesel because I like breaking federal laws

Agreed. I’d rather they just not require that info on the Monroney, like they do with 3/4 ton and up trucks.

fuel prices are much different here.
it's all more expensive, but Diesel is barely above the price of Premium, and occasionally even lower.

in stock trim i saw 28.5mpg in my EcoDiesel if not booting it down the highway. now, with a few inches of lift and 37s and an RTT, i still typically see 20+ (again, unless booting it; MPG falls off rapidly at speed).

but you've got a couple of commonly repeated misconceptions here.
it doesn't matter much since you can't buy a new on anymore, but the "$4000 upcharge" you refers to wasn't fair; that's the difference between a manual trans gasser and the diesel with an automatic. the Diesel adds much less if you compare it to another Automatic.
it also does not take into account the fact that the EcoD upgraded to Dana 44s front and rear (M210 & M220) and steel knuckles, stock.
DEF? cheap, easy and you don't need it as often as you need washer fluid. considering i go months between top-offs of DEF, it's a non-issue.

in the end i really got the EcoD for the range it gives me more than the fuel economy, but the abundance of torque makes it a joy to drive.

I get what you're saying about the eco diesel. However, I paid $2.72 for regular yesterday. The diesel was $3.69. That's a 35% premium. I averaged 18.7 mpg the other night. I'm hoping that gets better as it breaks in. With the eco diesel, I'd have to do better than a 35% increase in mileage to be ahead of the game. That means, I'd need to be getting 25.2mpg with the diesel to break even. Anything above 25.2 would put me ahead of the game. Of course, there was, I believe, around a $4000 up charge for the diesel engine. So I'd have to make back that cost as well. Then there's the maintenance and the def fluid I'd have to buy. You've gotta love the diesel for the engine itself. Overall, the numbers just don't add up. Overall, it's a more costly setup.

Reminder that the EPA estimates are assuming base model configuration in ideal conditions. The absolutely smallest, lightest tires from the factory with the least of amount of vehicle weight.

My 2024 3.6L 2-door rubicon averages about 18mpg

I get paid to drive Jeeps :)
My last four calculated mpg were 19.91, 21.97, 20.03, and 19.4; the last three where part of a road trip. 2024 JLU 3.6 6MT stock with hardtop with Sunrider and running boards, . It has about 3000 miles on it already (two road trips with more to come). I was getting 17-18+ at first; I suppose it's getting broken in, plus I'm getting used to when to shift it more efficiently.

100%. My 2021 3.6 2 door rubicon 6 spd window sticker states 25mpg highway. I took it to my work commute a few times (80 mi round-trip with 80% highway) and I could barely make 19 mpg. There's no way in the world it can hit 25 mpg even 100% highway at speed limit.

Ok, several things:

First, I am fairly sure the dash display for trip MPG is a recent-ish average, not a total average over the total trip. I say this because with hundreds of miles on the tank at a steady speed, the displayed average changes fairly quickly if conditions change. Example: For a long highway trip with some city at the end, I saw the last 20 miles make a quicker than expected change in the displayed average compared to the previous 200. It isn't like the instantaneous display, but rather more like the average over the last 50 miles, say.

Next, we have a JT with stock height, 6sp manual, 3.73 gears. On highway tires, the display said it averages around 20MPG around suburbia, and 24ish depending on wind and speed on the highway. Comparable to our minivan. On LT all-terrain tires of stock diameter but wider tread, drop it 10%. Towing a small fold-down trailer across the country we got 15-17.

Our full-sized pickup is more like 16 town or highway, 13 towing, so I'm happy.

It's also worth noting that the vast majority of other vehicles out there are far more aerodynamic than a Jeep. WInd has a much more dramatic effect on MPG with the Jeep than most other vehicles.

Brand new 2024 Willys 4 door 3.6 auto soft top here. Theoretically, my vehicle is rated at 23mpg highway. I only have 400 miles on it so I realize it's a brand new engine and mileage should increase a little once it's good and broken in, but I'm guessing this thing will never see 23mpg on the highway. Not with these heavy 33" tires and a 4.10 rear end. Maybe a 2 door sport with street tires, but not this Willys. Are there any 2024 Willys 4 door, 3.6, autos getting 23mpg on the highway? My work commute is all highway, 23 miles each way. I tried to hypermile it the other day. Didn't go over 60mph. Averaged 18.7mpg.

IMG_1088.jpeg
Other than the soft top similar to my wife's Willys with about 5 or 6 hundred miles on it so far.
I'm getting 19 average commuting to work 48miles/day on 2-lanes.
I have a big valley to climb out of leaving home and some small hills but rarely break 60mph unless I'm passing someone...
I think it might improve slightly as it gets a few more miles on it, but yeah it's no 23mph...
I'll be happy if it averages 20-21 though for what it is...

I really don't understand people's obsession with gas mileage. What I understand even less is why folks who are inclined to obsess over gas mileage would buy a Wrangler. It's the equivalent of a calorie-counter adopting a McDonald's-only diet.

The test conditions are at low speeds. Jeeps are shapped like bricks so they are more affected by every mph you go over those speeds. Every full sized truck I ever owned got less than advertised mileage too. I do tend to drive 80mph+ on the freeway so even the cars never got advertised but from what I've seen the % below advertised is directly related to aerodynamics...or lack there of. We've all seen people on here post their trip computer from these average mileage trips well over rated, and on every one when you calculate average speed is in the 40s.

Can’t answer on the 3.6.. however I have the 2.0 Willy’s 2021 and was getting 24-25 all day long and I only had 3.45 gears.. I now have a 2.5 lift and 35’s and get about 20.6
