I agree, I shouldn't need it, I didn't need it before, but I turned it on and it started working so *shrug*. I've been using an authentic apple cable this entire time. And also, car play stopped working this morning so I'm back to square 1 again...You should not need "Hey Siri!" enabled for CarPlay to work. I don't have it enabled, and CarPlay works (most of the time). My issue is the cable issue (as mentioned above). I have yet to try a USB-C type cable, but maybe that will help.
I wonder if Android Auto has similar issues...
