I have compared mine to a couple other newer Wranglers (mine is a newly delivered 2021 Sahara) out there and the quality seems consistent. Consistently poor that is. My interior tailgate looks like they used a rusted piece of metal that they partially sanded and then painted with a rattle can. Curious if others have noticed this and if it has been discussed previously. I could not find any thread on this specific topic though. I would have expected the quality of the paint to be consistent with areas such as door jams and under the hood. Since I am seeing this on other Jeeps I doubt anything will be done under warranty. Honestly if there is nop concern for premature rust then I am not going to pursue any fix for it. It is interior and not visible for the most part.

Anyone else have any comments on this? Is it maybe the metal that is used and it does not do well in paint prep?

I believe the tailgate is super fancy; magnesium or aluminum or something. Rust shouldn't be an issue

I figured the course finish was that way by design. It gives the inside of the tailgate a more rugged durable look, I think.
