I replaced my 35" KM3s with 38" Ridge Grapplers. In order to make these fit, I need to add another inch of bumpstop in the front. The rear still clears with a little pinch seam trimming. Since Im limiting the up travel on my shocks now, I thought that using these Metal Cloack upper shock mount relocation brackets would make up for my loss in up travel by increasing my down travel.

Are there any negative side effects of doing this? Im currently on stock driveshafts.

What shocks and bump size?

IIRC, the uppers add 3" or so. The lower outboards are more like 1.5".

Im on a RK 2.5" Adveture X series lift using Fox IFP 2.0 shocks for 2-3" lift. currently on 2" bump and going to 3" bump

Yes, they add about 1.5"

Just remember, you add to collapsed and extended, so you want to make sure collapsed + extension is less than bumped. Stock bump is 16.25", so 3" bump is 19.25" max collapsed.

Hope that makes sense.

So these shocks are:

Collapsed Length: 16.75in
Extended Length: 26.25in

Im guess that using the metalcloak bracket will be OK.

Any negatives? such as driveshaft angle?

RK's recommendation is under 29" extended with the stock shaft.

I was rubbing boot a little at 28.5" extended with the stock shaft, but I think that was due to the trans/crossmember on the 4xe, and denting the skid upward.

so if my math checks out:

Going with the lower mounts - my max extended will be 27.75. However, with 3" bump im going to be at 19.75"

The extended seems like its within spec, but the collapsed is 1/2" over. Im trying to figure out why thats an issue. if the upper shock mount location doesnt change and i add the extra bump for a total of 3", doesnt that mean i will have 1" extra on the shock shaft showing at full bump?

So with 1.5" added, your new shock+outboard will be:

Collapsed Length: 16.75in + 1.5 = 18.25"
Extended Length: 26.25in + 1.5 = 27.75"
Shock Length at Bump: 16.25+3" = 19.25"

To protect the shock from bottoming out, you want Collapsed less than bump, 18.25"<19.25", and you should have 1" of shaft showing at the bump stops.

Note, the axle does rotate crawling which impact where everything hits, so it's good to have some breathing room. The measurements we're looking at are straight up and down.

thanks. I see my mistake and this makes sense now. so I should be pretty golden with the lower mounts. ?

I'm using these shocks and thinking about going to 1'' bump with a 3.5''' lift.. they STROKE
  • Extended Length: 27.99in
  • Collapsed Length: 17.36in

Gutted fenders?
Remember the Durosprings add .75-1" of bump.

I would personally suggest a longer stroke than lift shock.. for sure.

2.5 lift, use a 3.5'' shock, you can always increase bump or lift height.

typically it's not even required.. if you're lifting with a 2.5'' spring, go with 3.5-4.5'' shocks.

For reference I'm running a 3.5-4.5 lift shock with a 2.5'' spring but added a 1/2'' spacer f/r and its working with a 1'' bump.
