My 2023 JLUD Sahara has the original plastic bumpers (no reverse sensors but WITH the red trapezoids to each side of the spare cutout). I'd like to eventually replace with something steel, but mostly I like to keep it looking new...but someone looks to have hit/run scraped the corner near the license plate badly enough that it's not really repairable with cosmetic plastic finish products. For now, I'd like to get a new bumper skin that looks just like the factory version.

Which models would have the the same skin where I could transplant it from a donor who's getting rid of theirs? is the Rubi identical except for the fender-flare wings (which are still in good shape on mine and probably reusable)?

I think all the plastic bumpers are the same except the Sport front bumper, and the painted High Altitude bumpers.

It's probably easier to just buy the whole bumper for ballpark $100, some people give them away for free.

Since the JK, I buy the whole bumper for cheap to replace the damaged one.

Get a metal bumper. You can easily keep it looking new with rust oleum bed liner. If you don't offroad much you can get the OEM steel rear bumper for very cheap. I got one for $200, cleaned it and re-painted with the rust oleum bed liner and it looks brand new. And no more worries on it getting scratched.

The JL series looks to have at least two major styles of rear (just in plastic). Sport has one style and sahara/rubi have another, and then that one has one with the sensor holes and one without. Finding someone local is the idea, just trying to avoid reaching out to someone one I know won't match/fit. All that I know now is based on just looking at pictures. I don't have a proper mapping of model options to part no...hence the questions in this topic.

Yep, I WOULD like to get a factory rubi steel bumper, but finding someone selling one without the sensors has been challenging. Apparently people like them :)

You can just take the sensors off?
Sure, but then you have holes in the bumper to deal with. I'd prefer to start with one not intended for the sensors in the first place.

I hear you. Easily plugged though. Most Rubicons nowadays come with the sensors. So yeah a bumper with no holes is really hard to find nowadays.

You are correct; Rubicon and Sahara have the same bumper skin. The Sport rear bumper is a one-piece unit. Mine is an '18 so it did not have reflectors either; not sure if the newer ones do.

Some time in 2024 a landscaping truck dented my original bumper, so I found a guy on Marketplace selling a cheap Sahara bumper. Easy swap. I was looking for one anyway because I knew at some point I would upgrade to the high-top flares and would have to change the endcaps as well. As you mentioned though, I searched for a while before I found one without the parking sensor holes.

After I picked up the high-top flares I struggled for a while to find Rubicon end caps. Note the mismatched corner on the side close to the tire.

Eventually I scored a rear bumper complete with endcaps from a fellow forum member. That one had the holes for the parking sensors, so I reused the bumper that was already on my Jeep and changed the ends. Here's a comparison between the Rubi (top) and Sahara (bottom) end caps.

After the swap, everything lines up again.

Good luck on your hunt!

@The Fixer ,thanks for the details. Other than normal wrenching to remove/replace, did you need to take parts out of the bumpers (skin, frame, etc.)? I'm hoping all that's needed is to unbolt and swap the license plate lighting assembly.

It's super easy - there's a few screws that hold the trim piece on that covers the upper shock mount, then a couple of bolts going into the frame from the support bracket right behind it, and then the main bumper bolts under the tailgate. If you have a ratcheting box wrench for those it'll make life much easier.

If you find a complete bumper you won't need to remove the skin or inner structure - in fact, you shouldn't even have to remove the harness for the light; it should be plug and play. In my case, I found the plugs did not match, but I don't know if it's a Sport-to-Sahara thing, or if it depends on the year. I just cut the connectors off and used a new DIY Weatherpak-type connector. Works great, and if I need to remove it it's easy to unplug.

The end caps were also easy to swap if you ever upgrade to the high-top flares; just some clips and screws hold those in place.
