This moving wall of a vehicle kills all the small insects in its way. I been driving it full of dirt til I picked up a family member from the airport, did detailed cleaning beforehand. This week I have been trying to keep the windshield spotless but It won't last one commute.

Since taking delivery of my JLU, I've reconciled myself to doing the following more frequently:

-Refilling the washer fluid reservoir;
-Using a squeegee and glass cleaner to remove at home what the wipers can't process whilst driving; and
-Replacing the wiper blades.

As distinct Pay to Play expenses, they could certainly be worse. No matter. It's worth it. ?

Rain X or a ceramic coating helps quite a bit. Even regular wax of you apply it regularly. I’ve even used Nu Finish before with good results. Wont keep bugs from hitting, but makes clean up far easier.

+1.

After some experimentation, my current Go To is Rain-X branded washer fluid (green for summer, orange for winter) and Latitude wipers. The end result is the bolded text in the quote. Specifically, if I sweep the windscreen with fluid immediately after a bug strike, the chances are good that it'll be wiped away completely, no matter the size of the splat.

I use the original concentrated Rain X that comes in the small bottle. I apply it to all external glass about twice a year.

I usually double coat the windshield, and will apply it more frequently if needed.

I began using Rain-X in 1990, when it was sold in the small yellow bottles and required prescriptive hand application on exterior glass surfaces. Seeing it one day at Auto Zone, I thought I'd give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the performance matched the ad copy.

It was during the same era that a quart of Castrol 20W-50 was just .99 cents. ?

I started using it in 1986 on an old ‘70 GMC pickup that then wiper motor went out on. I never did replace that wiper motor and drove it for 2 more years that way.

I'll sometimes defer turning the wipers on, so as to determine the combination, or extent, of rainfall and driving speed in which the Rain X treatment will still allow me to see the road with sufficient visibility. I certainly don't have to poke along, provided the rain isn't coming down in buckets. So, I understand completely how you got away with not having to replace the wiper motor in the GMC. ?

I have never filled the washer fluid as much as I do on the Wrangler, once a month maybe 2 months. They hit flat on and those yellow gut bugs are the worse.

Okay, when you originally posted this, you only had the first sentence and nothing else, which I assumed was a response to Wrangler owners that we're at the mercy of its design that we can't do anything about, hence my "haha" reaction. But yes, these are good tips. :CWL:

In an etrailer email this morning, they mentioned they were carrying a product called Scrubblade. Looks like they came out last year, I may try a set to see if they help at all when we get back from our trip.

Looks like they molded twin blades with nubs on either side with the intention off improving cleaning.

Good idea! I use my random orbital buffer on my glass more than the paint.
