If you’re right, that kinda sucks, because I don’t really see how I could’ve broken it. And yes, it's 2700 at the dealer.
If you alternator failed tomorrow, would you say you didn’t break it? It’s yours, it happened. Warranty is over. Best to just accept the case of what is and move on.

I see your point, but I don’t think the example you gave really fits. An alternator is something that naturally wears out, so you kinda expect it to fail eventually, right? But you don’t expect the floor under your feet to fall out after just 5 years and 30K miles. Sure, after 10-20 years and some rust, maybe, but not this soon. And when you actually look at it, it’s pretty clear the reason it failed is because of a sloppy job during assembly. Now imagine fixing that "floor" doesn’t cost a couple of hundred, but closer to $3K. Wouldn’t you at least wonder if the company should take some responsibility?

I get that my chances are slim, but I still think it’s worth trying. Plus, I wanted people to know this problem exists, since I couldn’t find anything like it anywhere online. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
