Regulation of interstate commerce is an enumerated power of Congress (for this exact reason).
Article I, Section 8, Clause 3.
Nothing is stopping anyone from purchasing out of state vehicles or forcing other states to sell, purchase, or refuse the use of said California compliant ones.

Stellantis’ legal team, and lawyers who represent the State of California say otherwise. You can read a copy of the agreement online.
I did, it is a typical political smoke show that can easily be preempted by federal law in a variety of ways. Stellantis has multiple options for unilateral termination, and could always simply pay some damages should they decide it is worth it to ignore.
Also, most of it only covers through model year 2026, and can go to model year 2030 in some circumstances - that is not a barrier to current development. If the have to go electric-heavy in the first couple model years of the next Wrangler, so be it, but this agreement does not stop the development of an ICE for the next Wrangler.

And it’s not just Stellantis. And the automakers have to consider future actions and development that may ultimately hurt them or be a total waste of money should the political winds change again. That’s one of the reasons they’ve voluntarily agreed to stay the course.

Don’t matter anyway, the economy is gonna go to shit and cars won’t be selling, not with everything costing 200% more because of tariffs and nobody around to do basic labor. Lol

They already aren't buying due to the 30% plus inflation during the last 4 years, and the 40% plus inflation of MSRP prices during the same time. Most people have to choose now between paying for their basic needs or buying a new car. They can't do both anymore.

But yeah, tariffs are going to hurt, but the continuing onslaught and mounting trade deficit with China has to be checked. The next 2 years will likely be tough.

Tough, or a complete disaster, mayhem, and uncertainty for the consumer and auto industry at large. You do know where that inflation from the last 4 years came from, right? Talk about regret.

So yay states rights until its something you dont like?
Bruh, it will be ok. We have Token to armchair-lawyer for us.

Of course, nobody needs an EPA or laywers if car companies just agree to exceed and improve MPG targets as a business practice.

I believe that the Hurricane will happen on the last year of the JL model. People seem to hold back when they know a new model is due to come. So to boost sales despite an obvious remodel around the corner, they’ll add the huricane L6 to boost sales.

Just like they constantly play with colors throughout model years, knowing that some people are impulsive enough to actually change a fairly new vehicle for a darn color, defying common sense and logic , they darn well know that they’ll change for an engine.

Just watch…
If that happens, FCA releases for regular production, not a concept prototype, the I-6 Hurricane Twin Turbo in the JL Platform, I will eat my favorite Jeep hat and post the video on YouTube.

I will now return this thread to it's regular arguments over CARB mandates, states rights and legal agreements.

I mean, it's not like there's any history of big tarrifs being passed causing a huge stock market crash and a great depression or anything...

Oh. Wait....

Let's get back to the issues the Hurricane engine is having in other model vehicles. This thread is the first I heard mention of them.

I do wonder what's going to happen to Stellantis and other US automakers who rely on goods from Mexico and China to keep the prices of their goods lower than if everything has to be sourced from the US. Stellantis produces a significant number of cars and components in Mexico alone.

But, this is the reality we face when chimos, spies, and other convicts are being installed over these industries at the highest level of government. I'm sure it will be totally fine...

26 lbs of boost on a 9.5:1 compression ratio (for the HO, the SO is 22 lbs and 10.4:1) doesn't leave much room for error.

Sure do! When the Biden/Harris administration passed the "Inflation Reduction Act" and began printing money to pay for it. How'd that work out for us??
Inflation returned to normal levels and we managed a soft landing without a big recession. 🤷‍♂️

And people with $60k Wranglers are still having to decide between putting gas in their rigs or buying eggs. That's what I read up above.

Who's ready for a $50,000 base Wrangler in 2027!? Bet it's still got the 3.6. 😆
