Has anyone done Pronghorn Trail at Hungry Valley? I've watched some videos of The Wall but it's hard to tell from videos how steep it really is. I think I'd make it no problem but I'm planning out a trip for brother, his boys and me and not sure if as a beginner my brother could make it up.

Anyone have in insights or suggestions for maybe easier trails there a newbie could do. We also plan to camp out there if anyone has suggestions on which campground is the best one.

we went to hungry valley a couple years ago. played in the obstacle area for a little bit. other than that it was BORING. i didnt see the "wall" you mentioned so it must be off to the side somewhere. we got bored and left to do the miller trail. googling pics of the "the wall", that looks pretty sketchy. i dont think a noob would want to, or should do that lol. the pucker factor looks pretty high lol.

hungry driving is easy driving for sure though. basically just dirt roads to drive around. i think its probably more fun for bikes/sxs that like to go fast. a noob can have some fun on the obstacle course. you could also do the miller trail instead. its not too difficult for a noob and you can guide him. lots of camping there with trees. camping at hungry valley looks more like desert camping to me.

some interesting info on tacoma forum. where i found this pic lol

Yeah my brother saw the video and said no way. I guess we'll stick to the easier dirt road trails and the obstacle area. I think my nephews wouldn't do well with the switchbacks at Lockwood on the way to Miller.

Hungry Valley was my first offroading ever. When i go back I'll probably laugh at what I thought was difficult before.

Wells (p148) notes "Be very careful. Misplaced tire could result in tip-over."

I've never camped. The Wells Ranch GC seemed nicer than the really huge ones near the practice area.

Nearby Alamo Man is a pleasant if easy drive. Dutchman GC looked pretty nice, open forest. The "scenic camp spot" Wells notes (p151) is really cool and the spring should be flowing full (tho needs filtered).

I forgot to mention this trip is in August. I imagine it's going to be pretty toasty out there so maybe a shadier camp site up in the mountains would be better.

Toasty indeed down in the valley! Well, jeeps have A/C!
Dutchman is at the upper end of the Miller Jeep Trail.
When I drove the Alamo loop early last September, the spring still had water.

Careful, the easier the trail the more likely you get stuck ?

Like the open area at the top? Knowing my brother and nephews I think we're going to end up camping close to the 4x4 obstacle area and running some easy dirt roads.

I do want to do Miller again though once it opens up in the summer.

I’ve gone to hungry valley 100+ times. All the trails there are easily doable in any jeep. I used to dirt bike there as a kid. I would say the biggest danger there are other motorists doing crazy stuff.
