My new YJ was barely 3 months old when I helped a doe depart this vale of tears on a dark winter's night.

I examined the impact point when I got home. There was a lump of frozen gore on the rear side of the bumper (which didn't bend a millimeter.)

I always use a rear hitch tray. Opening the rear is not an issue as I hunt by myself and everything I bring easily fits behind the front seats-back seat was removed when it came home from the dealer.

I use a hitch mounted bike rack. It folds down so you can tie the deer on while it's on the ground, and then lift it into position.
