Okay I got the 68251844AB hitch in today with no hardware.
I just noticed this. That part number does not match the part number I have for the JL. I have 82215209 for the new hitch. When I Google your part number, it says "for plastic bumper". The 822 one is significantly more expensive. It also comes with 4 through bolts, 2 nuts, and a 2" rubber cover.

Looks VERY similar. Wonder what the difference is..besides the extra parts?!?!

It is for a Jk and I paid like 50 for it but no cover or bolts came with it. You can reuse the 2 bolts already in the bumper and pick up 2 12x1.5 x 110 for about $10

I ordered the JL Sahara with the factory tow package...anyone have pictures of the factory receiver and where the 4/7 pin plug is located. Online photos only show reciever. I’ll need to add a electronic brake (after market) to tow a dual axle utility trailer.

Perfect thanks...anyone know if they have a class III receiver available yet? Either OEM or aftermarket.

OEM, no. eTrailer says they have a Class III Curt brand. But Curt hasn't said that they actually have one on their own website, so....? That discussion was earlier in this thread.

Dclark19: Can a JL handle 6000 lbs GTW and 600 lbs tongue weight? Or you just want a more robust 'bullet-proof' hitch?

This has been discussed before, here. I also want a Class III hitch for mine because I'll be pulling a 4,500 lb boat with it. Yes, I know that's more than the vehicles rating, but the Wrangler can do it easily! The rating is all about what the vehicle can stop, not pull...and my boat has its own brakes.

Here is the diagram of the route
Hi there, I am in the process of putting thogether the same parts as you have to do the hitch and harness install. When I was going to put remote start in my jk it said in the install instructions to flash the as built file to update the computer to allow the remote start. Does the install manual indicate the need for the as built file to be updated to allow the hitch wiring kit to “activate”. Could you perhaps upload the pages of the install manual so I could see the process start to finish?

Thanks in advance

I know my experience is out of date some, but ...

Jeep HQ engineers told me (when I worked there) in 2008 that the 1000 lb towing limit on the 2008 JKU "X" model was due to 3.8L engine cooling capacity. Basically, if your were pulling more than that up the Death Valley grade in summer, you'd overheat. Since I live in Michigan I have confidently ignored the 1000 lb limit and never had a problem.

The 3.8L is no more, so I don't know what other factors limit the current models to 3500 lbs. My experience, though, shows that it's not always related to the vehicle's ability to accelerate, stay straight and decelerate.

I recall seeing a video where I believe Mark Allen had been asked about this question and the response was that the suspension is a factor. There are some sacrifices that need to be made in order for the Jeep to maintain the off road capability it has. Basically softer suspension was a factor is what I got out of it.

Softer suspension and, from what I understand, shorter wheelbase.
