I cant object to sensible mpg standards. The further I can go on a gallon of gas the more places I will end up going. The irony is people will drive even more thus negating any benefit they think they are getting. lolno you wouldnt, on allpar there are mopar engineers, hemi is cheaper to make than the old 3.6 and much cheaper than the new version with cooled egr, hp70 they already make, beefier transfer cases are already designed etc, so would be parts bin engineering. only thing preventing it would be fitment, cooling and fuel economy which was probably what sank it, you can thank Obama for torpedoing anything like this. going forward you will have complex high maintenance cars/suvs to meet fuel economy stds. look at all the damn hoses and lines on these things, all which will need to be replaced. coolant modules run to the transmission to heat and cool the fluid, on the rams they are doing same to the diffs, all these things will either rot out or the rubber sections will have to be replaced at some point, big money
Dan at Dakota Customs used to own Burnsville Offroad. He was the only person I took my TJ too if I needed anything serius done with my TJ. Stand up guy.
Hellcat JK not JL. Awesome!
There were a ton of threads on this last year, but basically the engineer that used to do all the Jeep stuff in the 90s and 00s said that a factory Hemi Wrangler will never happen. Reasons were:
No room for it. Remember, FCA has to mass produce and crash test these things, whereas aftermarket companies don't.
Packaging. They claimed the brake booster was in the way and they already had to stretch the vehicle to fit the ZF 8-speed.
No need for it. Wrangler has a low tow rating because it's a convertible and the hitch bolts to only a crossmember. You can get all the horsepower you need from the Pentastar and all the torque you need from the EcoDiesel.
CAFE requirement. FCA is planning to move away from the V8 for everything except pickup trucks and high performance cars as they search for more fuel economy. Fitting a V8 into a Wrangler at this point in time would be counterproductive to the mission.
Not sure what this means? You think the current V-6 option is more then enough? Not all of us drive on hard pack or low speed rock crawl.I've had jeeps and use them for THEIR PURPOSE-
I have/have had HEMI's and use them for their purpose--they don't need to be co-mingled !

I had a 2013 JKU Freedom Edition 6-speed manual while I lived in Colorado. 2.5in lift, 33” tires, steel bumpers front and back, winch, and steel ACE rock sliders. It did just fine on my trips to Breck, Keystone, Winter Park, Estes, etc. I wasn’t hanging out in the left lane on the inclines, but was keeping up with the traffic in the right lane just fine in 5th gear. Don’t ever remember having to drop it to fourth unless traffic slowed down to a crawl which happened frequently near the Eisenhower tunnel.Anyone who says the Wrangler doesn't need a hemi hasn't run from Denver to Breck and back. Even in a 2 door Rubicon 5th and 6th are just accessories. They won't even keep highway speeds above 10,000' let alone accelerate with any incline at all. Not nice on that engine screaming along in 4th just to keep pace with all the light cars, diesels, and v8 trucks.
I can't imagine what it's like in a 4 door Sahara with this winded 6 cyl.
You option is scream the engine or act like a semi truck going up doing about 45.
A hemi would have enough torque to at least keep close to highway speed at a semi reasonable rpm.
Given how much space that ecodiesel took in my ram vs the hemi if the Eco diesel will fit in the jl and meet crash specs so will the hemi.
The diesel is a trade off I can't convince myself of in the Wrangler. I know how hot my ram exhaust got during a Regen. It doesn't tell you when it's running unless it's been interrupted several times. I'd hate to be on a trail that hasn't seen rain in 6 months with an exhaust that's damn near glowing red cause it unknowingly was running a Regen before I pulled off on the trail.
Yes, thinking about dropping in a crate hemi at 150K. I was informed a few other things besides the engine would also have to be changed out to handle the power.I'd say the powertrain wouldn't handle that much power especially in 4L. chunks everywhere. Thinking long term warranty costs lol
If the frame and body are still worth it, I'm contemplating a v8 swap for my JLUR. To be bulletproof, it would also need a higher model number 8-speed auto, 60 series axles, and an Atlas t-case.Yes, thinking about dropping in a crate hemi at 150K.
