We have a 2024 Sports S 4xe and are about to buy a 2015 Shasta Airflyte Reissue. I’m trying to figure out what hitch to get for it. I know you can purchase weight distribution hitches and/or sway control hitches. I just don’t know if the camper is heavy enough for one of those, or both. I took some pics of the towing specs. I’m told the dry weight is 2,345 lbs, but it’s a little more on the tag. I just want to have the right hitch when I got to pick it up. I still need to get some measurements to figure out how much drip to get.

Draw Tite makes a nice Class 3 that is WD compatible. I believe it's the highest rated hitch out there and easy to install. Not sure you need sway control but the WD is good to have.

Either a bolt on class III or a good hitch shop can make/modify the OEM Class ll. I'd go with a WD hitch with built in sway. I'm partial to Blue Ox. They make a sway pro 350 that should be about right. Really cute camper. "It hasta be a Shasta". Celebrated my first birthday in one similar to yours over 70 years ago.

I guess I’m trying to figure out if I need one. The cost is small compared to the camper, but it’s still not cheap. I just haven’t towed with anything smaller than a Chevy Silverado Z71 1500, so the Wrangler is new to me.

You'll want a good hitch and that's not expensive. Brake controller is the hardest part but even that's not terrible.

This was my set up on my previous jeep a sport s. This camper is lighter than the Shasta.

I used a wd hitch from e trailer that was awesome! I also used a Bluetooth brake controller with a phone app for manual use, which I didn’t use.

The thing about the wd is it leverages the weight across the entire frame from back to front, like a wheel barrow.

On top of that I would air bag the springs as they are inexpensive. This will give you a level stable ride that you can safely take anywhere.

I want a decent hitch, but I also don’t want to go overkill. If I can use the stock receiver that came with the tow package, I’d prefer it. It looks like it’s a 2 inch Class 2, so WD hitches won’t work for it. The trailer has electronic brakes I’m told, so I should be good there.

Do you have a brake controller?

Check out Adersen WD hitch. It is much lighter Than a standard WD hitch.

If it is a 2" receiver hitch, it is a class 3

You'd think, but Jeep classifies it as a class 2. It has the class 3 tube size, but class 2 weight rating and non-WD rating. (at least the OEM).

what's odd is the curt class 3 hitch looks identical to oem.

So it's interesting to see them all be updated. Looking at etrailer, as of a year ago the only hitch rated over factory was the HD Draw-Tite, they've recently increased the Curt and house brand ratings to 5k.
