Help clanking/grinding

Question I have a 2021 jl. This week in the snow when in 4 high I went over a pothole and heard a loud clanking grinding noise from the front driver side. Almost like metal on metal doesn’t do it in 2 wheel drive. Any ideas?

Yes but only in 4 hi

Only in 4Hi? What about 4Lo?

if the noise is only present in 4wd, it’s probably to do with the front diff ring and pinion, front driveshaft, or the transfer case itself.

Have you crawled underneath to inspect?

Yes 4 low too sounds like it coming from the wheel hub area
