Are you able to get the "Body Color" Hard Top AND the Premium Soft Top? It looks like I can not configure a JLU Sahara that way on line. Is this something the dealer would need to do for me upon ordering? Anyone know the total cost for the Body Color HardTop + The Premium Soft Top? Thanks!

Yes, you can. I think it’s like $1000 more to to have the freedom top painted, in addition to the upcharge for the hard-top or dual top option.

My wife and I currently have both tops on our JKs. Hers is a 4 door premium top where mine is a 2 door standard top. Quality is easily noticed between the two, mine is the standard stiff (ya know normal Jeep top from before the premium style days, kind of like starched blue jeans stiff) yet thin top. My windows are standard clear windows, they are also stiff and appear to be shrinking because the velcro to tuck them in does not line up anymore.

The premium top on my wifes is a big difference though. Its not stiff at all, and on a few occasions her windows should have gotten scratched but they dont (coating maybe? not sure). The windows have not shrunk at all through the years, and it feels better, thicker too. The way the windows are put together you cant see the stitches (im not sure if they are molded/stitched or what but the material used to make the window bleeds over on to the fabric with no visible stitches...maybe the stitching is just black thread and not visible under the window gloss) so there is no risk of water entering through the stitches as the years go by....all in all the premium top is without a doubt a much better quality option on the JK...so I would imagine this to be true for the JL as well.

Thanks for the perspective FcrackerJLRubi. I am getting just the premium soft top as well. Hope there is no big delay going on.

I believe that’s why he noted “full access”. If you have large or just oddly shaped items that require the full opening, it becomes a chore.
It’s certainly not as easy as just lifting the hard top window, but the new non-zipper slotted back-window looks easy enough to de-couple then drape over the roof for full access.

Thank for sharing.
We would like to skip the bother of a hard top if the new premium soft top is as good as indicated. It would be great to hear from folks as they get the new soft top and report on noise and ease of operation. More detailed photos would also be appreciated.

@yeoman18 Yes. Configures fine for me that way online. $2,195 for the dual top package (which gets you into the premium soft top), plus $1,200 for body color = $3,395 total. Here’s a link to a Sahara window sticker with that combo:

JL Rubicon on order
Yesterday, I got to test drive a Rubicon hard top and then a JL sport with a Non-premium soft top. I was impressed with the noise level of the soft top. I had a 2015 2Dr Rubicon with the premium soft top and the JL non--premium soft top noise level was less than the JK.

I ordered a JL with the premium soft top so I feel comfortable with just going with the premium soft top. I had the dual top on my 2015.

On the test drive with both the JLs, above 60 mph the wind noise becomes noticeable but I was still able to have a normal conversation with the salesman. And I didn't think the soft top noise was much louder than the hard top. The hard top did not have the mopar headliners and seemed to transmit a bit of noise. I had hothead headliners on my 2015 and if I was getting a hard top on the JL I would definitely get headliners.

I think the new windshield angle, other aero dynamic changes, more bonnet brackets on the soft top, and the active noise cancellation all make the JL soft top much improved over the JK.

I couldn't tell but was that a tan soft top? AS part of the package?

@wanderer Nope. Black, according to the window sticker. I don’t see an option to swap out the black soft top in the dual top package for tan. Dual top always lists black for the soft top. Probably some way to do it, but it might not be as cost effective as a package would be.

...still waiting
Sorry if this question is dumb.
I ordered the dual top option for my Sport S...How should I expect it to be delivered? I haven't really seen anyone's photos of both the hardtop and the soft...I think it is obvious that the hardtop will be installed at delivery...But will the soft come installed underneath the hardtop?

I have seen and heard varied stories. If the dealer preps the vehicle, then the soft top may partially be installed. I have also seen some take delivery and the soft top is in a HUGE box in the back.

I'm a premium soft top person. But I live in southern Louisiana, so winter isn't exactly a concern for me. I will say that I was in a head on collision with an unlicensed driver, who obviously had no place driving & the soft top is was allowed me to get myself, my husband, and my 7 year old out of the jeep. (I always carry a pocket knife which helped that out after flipping end over end & rolling into the ditch.) Stupid as it may sound, that solidified the soft top for me. I am super excited about the improved ease of use for the JLs when it comes to taking off/putting on the soft top! The amount of time and climbing around it took for me to put the JKU soft top on/off was my biggest gripe about it.
