wondering if anyone can help me. I have a 2021 JLUR.
back in 2021, I replaced my factory hardtop for a Mopar soft top. A year later I swapped back to my hardtop, but ever since I've had a knocking / popping noise coming from the hardtop....this happens when going over bumps, but mostly when turning. I'm worried I improperly stored the hardtop in my storage unit, vertically at an angle, resting on pillows.
The knocking ONLY happens when its warm outside and especially under the sun.
I've read almost everything online on the subject.. and I've tried everything mentioned including different torques on the hardtop bolts. and using silicone on all seals. nothing helps. the knocking happens with the bolts tight, and snug. with or without lubricated seals. Most people with similar issues have said it happens when its cold and my problem is the opposite.
It hardly ever happens in the winter ( I'm in the northeast ).
It's not my freedom panels, or the rear glass... the noise is coming from the hardtop. my best guess is the rear right side.
If anyone has suggestions i'd be forever grateful
(side note - after living with the issue for a year, I've installed a Rhino Rack pioneer platform and I thought it would help the issue with added weight, but its no different. and now I feel that if I asked a dealer to diagnose, they'd blame the rack instal. ). id really love to just fix this myself.
