We are moving to the San Antonio area and have heard there can be some serious hail storms. Have any of you guys had your Jeeps damaged?

I’m curious how the hard top holds up.

Not Teaxas, but I'ved had 2 rounds each of light denting hail with my soft top JL and hard top JT. Only damage was to the hoods, PDR was around $175 each per incident.

. . . realizing each day–
We live in the hill country north and west of San Antonio. The hail is hit and miss because those storms are many smaller cells of storms together. Your next street over neighbor may get golf ball hail though you just saw pellets. Our JKUR has some hail damage on the hood, the hard top looks fine. When the garage is full we park under the trees to soften the impact, though that may bring other risks...

Our last hail storm was breaking windsheilds and rear windows in a localized area of town. Many cars totaled or needing major repairs like roof replacement. We were not in the worst of it, but my wife's Cherokee parked next the JT and Jl had over $2000 worth of small dents.

I’m outside of San Antonio myself and the hail on the 35 corridor from San Antonio to Austin is no joke. It’s rare that it’s super destructive, every 5-10 years. The last real bad one that I can recall was in 2015-2016 I think, put holes in roofs of buildings.

As @cornercanyon said, it’s real spotty when it happens. My thought is that I can’t worry about what I can’t control and every part on a jeep can be replaced with an upgrade ;)

I would think a Jeep would hold up to hail as well as anything else. If you are unlucky enough to get hit with a bad storm you are screwed regardless of what you drive.

Yes sir. Couple of serious hail storms. Hard top and plastic fenders were not harmed at all.

I can tell by your description of hail that you are not in Texas!

Fact! 2016 was something special. Pulled a few pics off the interwebs, I remember it being bad and feeling lucky that I didnt get hit with the big stuff.

I live in Kansas and I have experienced softball sized hail that partially penetrated the roof deck on my house. That kind of hail is rare. The Jeep is less prone to hail damage because of the hardtop and plastics fenders. For hail smaller than golf balls you only need to worry about the hood unless the wind blows the hail sideways….which it can.

We are looking for houses now and finding a lot of single car garages. Not sure why there aren’t more two car garages.

I did read about moving blankets being a cheap way to try and protect vehicles.

Sent you a PM in reference to houses.

Hello soon to be fellow Texan! I live in North Texas and the area we live in seems to be a vortex for hail. I have yet to experience any damage to my JL as of yet when it has been stuck out in it. Nothing of baseball size but we have had our share of those mini oranges.

Texas is full!

But seriously, the JL does better than most vehicles due to the fiberglass roof and plastic fenders, and the aluminum hood does pretty good compared to steel as well. There are less two car garages here, and even fewer people who use their garage for cars, as they aren't as worried about the sun and heat as northern folks are worried about snow and cold.

Welcome to Texas, wipe your feet and try to remember how you found it and leave it the same when you go.
